Chipper/Beckett for J.Nathan/Halladay?

Postby stcardinal » Fri Apr 03, 2009 4:22 pm

How's this for a trade? I give up my chipper/beckett for his nathan/halladay. My closers are B.Willison and H.Bell, so nothing that great.

You're giving up the two best players, so I'm not thrilled by it.

I like the Halladay for Beckett part of the trade, my only concern would be who takes over for you at 3rd, 'cause even though Chipper is as injury prone as a closer is job loss prone, a mid season closer is easier to find than a mid season stud 3rd baseman.

Right now I'm planning on moving Miggy to 3rd, and 1st will be Helton/Sandoval

I know a closer isn't normally valued high, but in a head-2-head I figured the CG/SHO from Halladay would be worth the loss of Chipper.

I like the deal. I think Halladay is a nice improvement on Beckett and I'd take Nathan over Chipper, easily.

You're getting the lesser of the deal, but not ripped off. As was said before, I like the SP swap. But if you don't have a solid option at 3rd I'd stand pat.

Having Cabrera to move to 3rd does make it more palatable, although now you're tossing more question marks into the equation, Helton/Sandoval. Cross you fingers and make the deal ;-D

I have high hopes (maybe foolish dreams) for Sandoval, and Helton has been sharp in spring training. I figured with Chipper being injury prone and missing 100+ starts, he's about the same as Helton.

I like this deal alot. Chipper is great but the injuries are frustrating, and he is getting to an age where a very real regression or major injury could happen any year.

Halladay and Becket are close, but I like Halladay better.

Everyone is all about "not paying for saves" but when you have a stud Closer it gives you a nice edge over your opponent. and I have found that people will pay for saves near the trading block everytime.

Do it !
