C.Utley & An.LaRoche FOR L.Castillo,C.Davis & M.Joyce (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Fri Apr 03, 2009 2:49 pm

UPDATE -- UPDATE -- UPDATE (I got him to get Kelly Johnson out of the deal, and maybe have him take Castillo and Joyce,)

15 team Auction Fantasy Point Keeper League, (DEEP ROSTERS) We start the following every week, 2-C, 2-1B, 2-2B, 2-SS, 2-3B, 6-OF, 8-P. Hence the term "Deep Rosters" Plus we have a 6 man bench, with 3 minor league slots. Players have 3 year contracts, then become free agents/toppers. We keep 12 players yearly, Meaning I can top his salary in the following years auction. Active Season Salary restriction is $305

I GET:
2B - C.Utley $42 (3) (free agent, topper rights @ seasons end) Best 2B in the biz???
3B - Andy LaRoche $1 (1) (eligible for 3 more years @ that salary) has potential. THIS IS ANDY (3B) , NOT ADAM (1B). I already have Adam on my roster.

I TRADE:
2B - L.Castillo $1 (1) (free agent, topper rights @ seasons end) (not liking his spring training, and hitting 7th or 8th in the lineup :-t
3B - C.Davis $5 (2) (has this year and next year, left at that salary, great value) (should hit 30hrs potential to hit 40hrs?, really struggling) my league penalizes on strikeouts!!! :-o )
OF - M.Joyce $1 (1) (really like this guy, great long term keeper, but I have depth in the OF, and he just got sent down, should return in June the latest)

MY ROSTER:
STARTERS: (Salary) (contract year)
C - V.Martinez $30 (1)
C - C.Iannetta $1 (2)
1B - A.Pujols $44 (2)
1B - Adam LaRoche $2 (1)
2B - K.Johnson $1 (3)
2B - L.Castillo $1 (1)
SS - E.Renteria $13 (1)
SS - E.Aybar $4 (1)
3B - A.Ramirez $33 (3)
3B - C.Davis $5 (2)
OF - C.Lee $42 (1)
OF - BJ.Upton $5 (3)
OF - J.Bay $15 (2)
OF - C.Hart $5 (3)
OF - R.Spilborghs $1 (1)
OF - J.Rivera $3 (1)
SP - T.Lincecum $2 (3)
SP - C.Lee $3 (2)
SP - A.Wainwright $18 (1)
SP - AJ.Burnett $2 (3)
SP - J.Johnson $1 (2)
SP - P.Maholm $3 (1)
RP - M.Gonzalez $2 (1)
RP - C.Cordero $21 (1)

BENCH:
OF - M.Joyce $1 (1)
OF - D.Fowler $3 (2)
SP - I.Snell $2 (1)
SP - P.Martinez $1 (1)
RP - R.Perry $3 (1)
RP - J.Arredondo $2 (1)

DL:
SP - T.Hudson $3 (1)
SS - J.Lugo $3 (1)

MINORS:
1B - J.Smoak $2 (1)
3B - P.Alvarez $5 (1)
SP - M.Bumgarner $3 (1)

Thoughts on the deal, obviously this help me greatly this season, or should I lay off the offer. It would put me at about $295 active salary, so it would enable any great deals later on, pending I don't move a salary for salary type of deal.

PLEASE ADVISE, leave a link WHIR like always. :-D

Thanks,

Sure it puts me at the cap, but there are no restrictions on starting closers, its just 8 pitchers. SO I can sit, Cordero and his bloated salary, (don't ask) I had a brain fart in the auction, and got stuck with him. Then I could start a middle man or one of my starters, and get points in other fields not necessarly at Saves. It isnt Rotissere League, its a Fantasy Points League. so who cares how I get the points. Right?

Any other info. greatly appreciated. I by any means, dont think its a BAD deal for him either, he is an expansion team, and would probably let Utley go at seasons end, now he gets Chris Davis @ $5 for two more years.

So I want to make sure I understand this before I comment... It's a $305 active cap, meaning that your bench players don't count towards your salary cap right? I've never played in a league like that so I wanna make sure I understand it, but Cordero's $21 wouldn't count against your cap if you benched him?

I'm a huge Utley fan. He'll be better than Davis for sure. LaRoche definitely has potential as well and I'm not thrilled about KJ. So I say do it, and depending on how your points are set up, the closer role could be really minimal if you get in a pinch salary wise.

Exactly, $305 is only for ACTIVE SALARY CAP. And we changed our rules this year, so we dont have to start 2 RP every week, we grouped SP/RP together. SO this might help me. SO I basically would ditch the saves (fantasy points) but we included Holds as a category, so I coulg go get an Arredondo or Balfour, for cheap (currently on the wire) and roll them out there. Etc. Start Cordero when I feel like it, and sit Wainwright some weeks etc.....

I say you pull the trigger here then... Utley will make a serious impact for your team, and by sitting Cordero, you'll still have some cap room to make any moves if it becomes necessary.

Davis is tough to let go, especially at just $5, but Utley is HUGE upgrade for you at 2B and you'll have topper rights to him so he could be a long-term guy for you if nobody goes overboard for him.

On a side note, you hae got to be VERY please with your SP... Man, that's real nice salaries you've got those guys at. I'm real jealous seeing the salaries for Burnett, Lee, and ESPECIALLY Lince...

If your cap is the way you say it is, this is a no-brainer...pull that trigger!!! you get the best 2B and a player in LaRoche who has some nice potential for Johnson (meh) & the Hype-monster-Davis

I'd do this

Thanks,

Ya, I was happy to get Lincecum at $2 prior to his rookie season, (as a minor league claim) and viola things worked out GREAT!!! Hopefully his understudy will show similar exceleration thru the system, in Bumgarner. Got him this year for $3. Here's hoping, great left handed arm. ;-D Only problem with Lince is I lose him at seasons end, but do have to option to top. Of course he will hit the high $30's maybe even 40's next years auction.
