2 Exams/Missed my Draft. How bad is it?? whir

Postby jsibi18 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 2:15 pm

This is my first roto league (didn't really know what I was getting myself into) and I managed to pick a draft date the night before two huge exams the next morning. So anyway, this is the team I auto drafted. I must admit I saw a name or two I didn't even recognize.

10 Team CBS 4x4 Roto BA HR RBI AVG ERA S WIN WHIP

C D Navarro
C Y Molina
1B A Huff
2B M Aviles
3B C Guillen
SS D Jeter
MI P Polanco
CI C Jackson
OF B Upton
OF G Sizemore
OF M Holliday
OF S Victorino
OF T Hunter
U C Crisp

RS F Lewis
RS X Nady

P C Hamels
P C Lee
P C Zambrano
P F Rodriguez
P J Lackey
P J Devine
P J Weaver
P R Harden
P U Jimenez

RS A Sonnanstine
RS J Ceuto
RS M Pelfrey
RS S Baker

My OF looks pretty stacked but I will definitely have to move some of those guys.

Where do I look strong? Where am I weak? Who should I try to move and for what type of player?

Thanks for any help! Leave a link.

"BA HR RBI AVG ERA S WIN WHIP"

That can't be right. BA = AVG = batting average. What's the 4th hitting cat?

Its not bad but its not good either. I expect you will have some problems in your infield. I'd use your depth at OF to fix that problem. Pitching is good but there are alot of injury questions - Lackey, Harden, Devine, Hamels. Don't expect K-Rod to even get 75% of the saves he got last season. And I see regression for Zambrano and C. Lee.

Overall rating 6/10

Thats tough. You have a lot of issues in the infield. However you have a great outfield.

Your staff is pretty good, but a few of those guys should see regression.

You will most likely finish in the bottom third of your league.

See if you can trade some of your OF to get better IF...

You have waaaaay too many steals and not enough middle-of-the-order rbi and hr pop. In the of, Sizemore, Holliday, and Upton are good dual-threat guys (at least hopefully, in Upton's case). After that, you want mostly power (since you're getting a decent number of steals already, and fast leadoff guys only help you in one cat, while middle-of-the-lineup guys help in two). I'd look to trade Victorino -- he's got solid value, but you should be okay on steals without him. Try to move him for a good slugger. I'd drop Nady for someone with more upside (again, power upside). I don't think he'll play enough to be worth the roster spot.

On pitching, you need a closer or two. Devine is seeing Dr Death. But I don't think your starters are bad at all. Yes, there are injuries, and some may regress, but it's not a good idea trying to guess which ones will have a down year. Just roll with these guys while things shake out. The injuries to Hamels and Baker don't sound too bad, yet. Lackey's out a while but worth the wait. Harden's perfect for a roto league (don't have to count on him for the playoffs, just get the stats when he's going). Those 4 are all excellent pitchers. Zambrano is a good rebound pick. I'm not a fan of Lee, but, hey, he won the CY, it's a good pick whatever my bias. The rest are all dependable or high upside. I don't see any major issues there to start the season. Just be ready to adjust, as always.
