Madison Bumgarner

Just landed him in our first reserve silent auction. Has had an amazing audition in Spring Training (5 IP 1H, 6K) and is slated to pitch the final ST game for SF. I imagine he will start in AA given his dominance in the Sally League and ST. Any chance he sees the majors this year?

This is very funny.

Bumgarner's good, but is irrelevant except in keeper leagues.

Doubt he'll get called up any time soon. But today the Giants announcers were all talking about amazing this kid is and Manny even said the guy was really good for just being 19 (he struck Manny out with 3 pitches the other day).

Guy's chilling in Class A with Posey.

From what I read yesterday in a Keith Law chat on ESPN.com, Bumgarner will be in High Class A this season to start off with and will probably work his way into AA by seasons end. He is only 19 so there is no reason to rush him (one thing the Giants do have is a good pitching staff). It will be interesting to see how he handles pitching in the Cal League (San Jose Giants) as that is most definitely a hitters league. But the San Jose team will be stacked so he'll have a lot of good company when he does get moved up (Buster Posey, Tim Alderson, Conor Gillaspie, Angel Villalona, etc. etc. will all be there as well). Keep an eye on him in deep keeper leagues!!

Tremendous Prospect but little value this year...

I would say you need to pitch a little more then 5 innings to have a great spring. But he should be a good in in the future

My league is a keeper league...otherwise I wouldn't be prospecting. His Spring performance is based on overall organizational feedback and that from other teams--not just his 5 dominant innings. With his talent and work ethic, I could see him climbing rapidly. The work ethic (and coachability) part of the equation is what is lacking from most top prospects that stall and/or fizzle out (see. e.g., Delmon Young) Bumgarner and Jason Heyward have it.

So drafting someone counts as a player update/injury?
