Looks Like a No Brainer But...(WHIR)

Postby RenPastana » Fri Apr 03, 2009 1:14 am

I was offered:

Garret Atkins and Jake Peavy for my Nelson Cruz and Josh Becket

My league (12 teams NON keeper) is 6x6 (just like 5x5 but OPS and K/BB)

My team is as follows:

C: Victor Martinez
1B: Mark Tex
2B: Chase Utley
3B: Ian Steward (who seems to be out of a starting spot)
SS: Troy Tulo
OF: Nick Markakis
OF: Alfonso Soriano
OF: Nelson Cruz (love his upside and hitting 4th in such a potent line up, plus a I'm a Rangers homer)
UTIL: Carlos Delgado
UTIL: Ryan Spilborghs
BN: Felipe Lopez
BN: Mike Aviles

SP: Josh Beckett
SP: Joba Chamberlain
RP: Chad Qualls
RP: Jason Motte
P: Kevin Slowey
P: Chris Carpenter
P: Yovanni Gallardo
P: Adam Wainewright
BN: Chris Ray
BN: Randy Johnson
BN: Carlos Villanueva

My uncertainty to pull the trigger is: since K/BB was added, strike out pitchers who don't walk hitters are super valuable, aka Josh Beckett, even though I'd be getting back Peavy (top 5 pitcher, my scare is his win total with that SD line up). Also, I am extremely scared, more importantly, about Garret Atkins declining batting average, OBP, SLUG, along with an increase in K's AND a bad groin. Nelson Cruz has such a huge upside, will be hitting clean up behind Josh Hamilton, AND will help me in steals which I badly need. Lastly, I am rangers homer as mentioned above so it's not as easy for me to part ways with Cruz...Convince me as to why I should or should NOT accept this trade. Most people think probly think it's a no brainer, however, I am not so sure about Atkins this yr without Holliday.

Thanks in advance!

Do it, Cruz is overrated/overhyped. He most likely won't outproduce Atkins.

Ya. I like Peavy and Atkins in this one too. I'm not much of a risk taker though. I like to know what I'm gonna get. But I've won 3 out of the past 4 years.

I wouldn't. Atkins is falling as fast as anybody in bb. Look at his huge ops drop the last 2 years.

I like Beckett better than Peavy because of wins, and I wouldn't trade away my ticket to the Carribean Cruz for just Atkins. So no deal.
