Drop Pat the bat? WHIR

Postby Hit Factory » Thu Apr 02, 2009 3:32 pm

I am in an 8 team 5x5 roto league, obviously there are some nice free agents available.

1.)Do you think I should drop Pat Burrell or J.J. Hardy and replace them with the following players: Atkins, Peralta, Aviles, Ethier, or Cantu.

2.)Also, I currenly have 3 closers (Fuentes, Heath Bell, and Qualls.) do you think any of these free agent closers are better...Gregg, Street, Mike Gonzalez, Morrow, Motte, Hoffman, Percival, Frank Francisco, Devine, Ziegler, Lindstrom, or Chris Perez? I am leaning toward dropping Bell or Qualls and picking up Kevin Gregg, what do you think?

WHIR for sure!

Here is my entire team:
Ianetta
Teixeira
Utley
Hardy
Wright
Ichiro
B.J. Upton
Kemp
Rios
Util: Fielder
Util: Adrian Gonzalez
BN: Burrell

Peavy
Billingsley
Fuentes
Heath Bell
James Shields
Wainwright
BN:Bedard
BN:Qualls

Wow that's tough. There are 5-7 closers about equal to Qualls. That tempts me to say keep Burrell just because of supply and demand (but then again, I'm sure there are plenty of good hitters on FA too).

I'd rank the closers like this:

J. Motte, F. Francisco, Qualls, Gregg, Morrow, Hoffman, Percival

In a league that shallow with lots available, go with the highest upside in terms of ratios and Ks. If they don't pan out, fall back on a different option like Gregg, Hoff, Percival.

People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.

I like gonzalez over qualls, thats probably the move I would make.

And I've heard a lot of good things about Ethier so at the very least keep a tab on him for the first week or two.
