im in need of some power and another starter and i have some speed and saves to burn. that being said, i want to make sure i get good value for my pieces. what do you think of this trade? roster in sig.
get: big papi/e. santana give: milledge/h. bell
c: martin 1b: butler 2b: s sizem ss: andrus 3b: e long mi: a escobar ci: of: kemp of: werth of: rios util: byrd bn: s rodrig, l mill, y escobar, c davis
SP: lee, f liri, j sanch, c bill, marcum, w davis, matusz, latos, s stras RP: pap, c perez, fuentes
I would definitely make this move, Papi is 10x better than Milledge (things might change in the next few years but for right now its not even close,) and if you need a starter Santana is good times, just keep a close eye on his injury. Good luck!
I don't dislike the trade, although you should take this with a grain of salt as I'm a Red Sox fan. I think it gives your OF an upgrade (imo Werth > Milledge), and then you can slot Papi into your UTIL spot. I also think you need help with SP, and have RP to burn. Early reports sound positive on Santana's return. My first reaction is to take the trade, although I wonder what the other guy's roster looks like. Just out of curiosity, is this a h2h league?
funny enough im a sox fan too - part of why i asked the question, i hope im not just biased. it's not a h2h league, 12 team 5x5. the other team is in desperate need of a closer and steals and has power to burn. he also has a lot of good SP's - but i don't think i could ask for anything better than santana.

To answer your question, yes, I believed in Ervin Santana (yes, past tense), but I won't be surprised if that elbow strain causes him discomfort somewhere down the line or perhaps for much of the season. I like Ervin a lot, but as far as what to expect in light of the injury, you'd have to temper it some.
As for the trade, I'd do it, value-wise and for the idea Ortiz figures to be more productive this year than Milledge.
i guess the part of this is, do i make a trade using my 2 chips (bell and milledge) to get me more power - what this offer does, or do i do it to get a better SP. that's also what im struggling with.
I would do it. I think Papi is in for a good season. He is looking fit and he didn't play a lot in spring training he had good numbers (13 G, 34 AB, .294 Avg, 3 HRs, 9 RBIs, 20 TBs, 5 SO,.390 OBS, .588 SLG)
I also think Santana is worth the gamble. I think with what you have for SP this trade will do you good and will prob be better than anything you can grab on the fa/ww.

Thanks for the help on mine!... but i totally agree with what Dodger is saying... i don't think Santana will be able to stay healthy for very long and that elbow may hamper him for hell the rest of his career however long that may last... but in reguards to value i think you win this trade... adding Big Papi for Milly and Bell i would do that trade straight up and santana is just an added bonus that if he works out could again be a top 15-20 SP for you... good trade for you...
I would be happy getting Ortiz for those 2, and Ervin is a great throw in. He can come through and be nasty or just sit there in your DL spot all year.
