basically these guys are worth pick-ups, just not worth burning your WW priority on.

You can pick up Downs but not using a WW claim.

I will be blunt, dont waste your waiver spot on temporary closers without closers stuff. The bigger question is why are Villanueva and Downs waiver wire guys?

hehe, i realized i said derek lowe plays for the dodgers when he clearly plays for atlanta, my bad. my point is someone like derek lowe obviously shouldn't be waived. he is the braves opening day starter.
bottom line is wait for villanueva, downs, rodney to clear waivers. whichever one clears waivers pick him up and waive seattles mark lowe (who has very little value in a league that doesn't use holds as a category)
ivanhack wrote:If its Seattle's Lowe its a different story. I def wouldn't use my waiver on Villanueva, possibly on Downs. Fernando Rodney will be the closer for Detroit now too. However I think thats going to be a volatile situation and I don't think he will remain the closer for Detroit for long.
If you're in a league with 10 or more teams and you are shallow at closer feel free to use the waiver on Downs. It would be worth the gamble. However keep in mind there's a chance, imo a good chance, that BJ Ryan ends the season as the closer for Toronto.
And to the guy that replied to my post thinking its a good idea to waive Derek Lowe for Scott Downs I would love to be in a league with you.

When Trevor Hoffman comes back Villanueva will go back to middle relief and will have little value. I think BJ Ryan will eventually get his closer role back.
Derek Lowe is the Dodgers' #1 pitcher. I'm sure you can offer him to a team that has 3 or more closers (and needs another starter).
Can you help with mine?
