Beltran for Howard?

Postby socceryank » Tue Mar 31, 2009 1:07 pm

A huge Mets fan in my league has been sending trade requests for my Beltran, one of which included Howard. He currently has Howard on his "Trading Block." I have become a little concerned about Beltran, considering his move to the new park, and probably batting 5th in the lineup. Howard is more appealing in our league, as we have replaced AVG with OPS.

Would you look to make an offer for Howard? If I unloaded Beltran, I could put Victorino in the lineup, which would help out with the loss of SB.

I know my pitching staff is weak, especially RP, but I will improve upon those as the season progresses.

10 team, redraft, H2H.

My team:
C Ianetta
1B Fielder
2B B.Phillips
3B MCab
SS Jeter
OF Beltran
OF Markakis
OF Guerrero
Util Abreu
BN Victorino
BN N.Cruz

SP Oswalt, Shields, Lee, Gallardo, Nolasco, Saunders, Escobar
RP Street, Devine, Ray

Thanks in advance!

OF J Upton, McCutcheon, Choo

I say do it! You wouldn't be able to put Victorino in your line-up though, as Howard would become your util guy. You would have to platoon him with Abreu and Vlad and Cruz. Your best bet would be to make this deal, and then package some OF for a top OF.
Also, look to upgrade Jeter. In a 10 teamer, he is your weekest spot, and you have enough pieces to pull it off.

Good point, didn't think that one through all the way. I will first offer up Beltran straight up, which he may go for because of his Met fetish. If he doesn't go for that, how would you sweeten the pot?

Definitely. Move Abreu to the OF and put one of the two 1B as a util.

Why would he go for that? If he would be willing to go for that today he would have drafted Beltran over Howard in the first place.

Simply because the draft didn't pan out how he intended, and he is desperate for some speed.

I'm not sure what you're expecting out of these players this year but in this league setup Beltran was substantially more valuable than Howard last year. I would not make this trade.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
