Gary Sheffield released by Tigers

The Tigers ate the $14 mil owed to Sheff, and I'm sure he'll sign on elsewhere before too long. Toronto maybe, we'll see.

What does this mean for the Tigers, and specifically, Marcus Thames? Do you think this puts Thames into the everyday DH role, and if so, is 30-35 homers possible? He hit 25 in 316 AB's last season, so if he gets 450 or so, think he's worth a flier in AL-only leagues and maybe some deeper mixed leagues? Think this affects anyone else on the club?

The Phillies released Jenkins and have already contacted Shef's agents. I'd be a good fit if Shef is willing to accept a role as a the 4th/5th OF, backup 1B and RH bat off the bench on a playoff contender. If he wants a starting job he'll need to look elsewhere.
