Hopefully nobody else signs him and he's forever stuck at 499. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I think that this makes Thames ownable. 25 HR in 316 AB last year makes him decent power if he has a FT DH gig.
I love Thames in deep leagues as a platoon guy with 1B/OF eligbility, but I doubt he'll be a full-time player. Josh Anderson being a lefty makes some platooning natural.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/03/tigers-release-gary-sheffield.html2:49pm: Zolecki learned from Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. that the team did contract Sheffield's agent. The Reds haven't discussed it, says Walt Jocketty.
5:12pm: Andy Martino of the Philadelphia Inquirer learned from a team source that the chances of the Phillies signing Sheffield are "very slim." Martino did learn from Sheffield's agent Rufus Williams that a part-time role is not off the table for his client.
It looks like he has an offer. Part-time with the Phillies.
His ego might not let him take it though.
