Justin Upton or Coco Crisp

Postby intodeep » Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:36 am

I drafted Justin Upton as my 4th OFer but Coco Crisp is on waivers and I'm wondering if he may give me better production this year.

i play in a 12 team head to head redraft league. We use 8 catogories:
Hits, Runs, HR's, K's, RBI's, SB, OPS, AVG

I drafted upton becuase of his upside, but i like crisp in the lead off spot in KC since he has something to prove this year. Did i make the right choice or since it is a redraft league and only this year's numbers mean anything should i go get Crisp? Upton's numbers last year were not that impressive will he improve that much this year? He is still young.

I will be looking to use either as a starting OFer if my other OFers get cold or in the Utility spot on my team.

If it is any help my team is:
C-Posada
1b- Fielder
2b- jose lopez
ss- drew
3b- wright
of-carlos lee
of- alex rios
of- b abreau
Utility- who ever is hot between: upton/crisp ; paul konerko; or Rickie Weeks

Thank you for your opinion.

I'd drop Konerko before Crisp.

justin upton starts slow, but i wouldn't give up on him unless it's mid-late june and he's still in the tank. and i wouldn't give up on konerko yet either because he's quietly having a very productive spring and if you know pee-kay, well you know that he's a sadomasochistic-type who gets so mental over the minutiae of each and every at bat that he basically creates his own slumps and whatnot, so basically we can look back and see that konerko has had monster halves of seasons, front nad back, with the other half being mental/in-the-tank, so if there's an odd chance even a slightly-regressed-with-age konerko can have one of his hot patches, that could really give your team some production for awhile, especially at a util spot.

coco crisp is, after all, coco crisp. and he's on the royals. i mean, look at his career bests and figure he's not going to go above and beyond that, whereas konerko having a hot period and the upside of justin upton figure to be better than the-man-they-call-coco will ever do

I would keep Upton. More volatile yes, but I think you would be disappointing with Crisp regardless of how he performs.
