I've been offered Volquez for Harden, what to do? WHIR

Postby Bonger » Tue Mar 31, 2009 2:22 am

Hi,

I've been offered Volquez for Harden in a 10 team H2H keeper league.

This would seem like a no brainer, I should accept the trade. However, I have a few reservations. Harden is statsitically one of the elite pitchers in baseball and I know I can count on him...when he is healthy.

Volquez has amazing stuff, but faded in the tail end of last year and doesn't have the track history of Harden, and he pitches half his games in Cinci.

Conversely, from chatting with another owner, I think he would accept a counter-offer K-Rod, Harang and Harden for Volquez, Dice-K and Nathan.

Help!

No. If Harden survives again he'll be amazing, while Volquez's second half points to a good but not great starter. I'd gamble on the better player in Harden.

I prefer the Harden/Harang side. Dice-K walks too many batters, so he will likely have a season more like his 2007. Volquez is another risk because of the BBs. On the flipside, Harden is a star albeit injury prone, and Harang was unlucky last year.

K-Rod, Harang and Harden for Volquez, Dice-K and Nathan.
Good counter.

I'd avoid Harden's risk. Volquez is no slouch and last season's successes were no fluke.
