Trading Jason Bay (for Liriano and Taveras)

Postby The_Idiot » Mon Mar 30, 2009 9:20 pm

With the OF that I have, I think that I can afford to trade Jason Bay. Would it be smart to deal him for Liriano and Taveras?

Otherwise, I think my biggest weaknesses are in the infield. Who are some corner infielders that I could expect Bay to fetch that would be an upgrade over Blalock and/or Mora?

My Roster:
5x5 Roto Re-draft
SP Brandon Webb
SP Matt Cain
SP Yovani Gallardo
SP Clayton Kershaw
SP Ubaldo Jimenez
RP Jonathon Papelbon
RP Carlos Marmol
RP Carlos Villanueva

C Jeff Baker
C Jarrod Saltalamachia
1B Lance Berkman
2B Emmanuel Burris
SS Ryan Theriot
3B Melvin Mora
MI Khalil Greene
CI Hank Blalock
OF Grady Sizemore
OF Josh Hamilton
OF Nick Markakis
OF Jason Bay
OF Cameron Maybin
UT Travis Hafner

Bench - Aaron Hill (2b)
Bench - Ryan Spilborghs (OF)
Bench - Dan Murphy (OF)
Bench - Chris Volstad (P)
Bench - Jordan Schafer (OF)
Bench - Luis Castillo (2B)

i think for bay, you could try and get someone like aramis ramirez or morneau. you could even try going after a-rod since he's out. you'd have to package bay with someone to get a brandon phillips or above.

You don' think I could get Phillips straight up for Bay???

Also, what do you think of the original deal that I posted -

I get Liriano and Taveras for Bay.

Taveras as in the speedy, no-power OF? I like the Liriano part fine, but I think you're much better off trying to get a better middle infielder. Your rotation is better than you think, so as nice as Liriano is, he's not needed. A speedy MI and/or a good 3B will ultimately serve you much better than a glut of SP and a speed demon.

So do you think Phillips for Bay is fair?

You should be able to get more than the original deal. Go ahead and offer Bay for Phillips, its fair and might get done as is, but if I were on the Phillips side I'd want a little more. Some CIs taken around Bay are Morneau, Adrian Gonzalez, Youkilis, Chipper.
