#4 Rookie Pick

Postby WIZZER » Mon Mar 30, 2009 9:42 am

We are just starting a new NL only keeper league and having a rookie draft and I'm picking
4th. So far Maybin,Rasmus and Fowler are off the board who should be next? I'm either
thinking Motte, Alvarez or Heyward? I think Motte will help me right now, but don't think he
has as much upside as the other 2? Any thoughts greatly accepted!!

On an -only league, you definitely want to draft on the player with the most skill(Alvarez), not the best position(Motte). In this instance, what happens you have to choose Alvarez and thank your lucky stars he hasn't been chosen already.

Good luck

Thomas speaks the truth. Alvarez needs to join your team.

I would go with the opposite of everyone else and say pick Heyward. I like Heyward's upside better than Alvarez. I see Alvarez putting up a .280 avg 25+ HRs 80 runs 90 rbis. With Heyward you're goin to get the total package. .300+ avg 30+ HRs 100 100 15-20 sbs. Plus he is younger...19 yo.

How deep is the league? And how many minor league slots do you get? What does your team look like? I'm probably list them like this:

Heyword
Alvarez
Bumgarner
Hanson

But if your team is short on pitching I wouldn't second guess going with Bumgarner first or Hanson if your looking for a quicker turnaround. I actually like Bungarner the most, but considering the success rate of pitchers, I lean towards the bats. Besides, you could always be on the look out for Strasburg going the Nats in June. But outside of a select few there are not many pitching prospects I'd be to interested in.
Good luck, feel free to PM me

This league is just starting out, our auction is this coming weekend.
Thanks for all the advice, now I have to figure out who I'm going to take
with my 2nd and 3rd rounders!

Stanton went 5th or he got Stanton in the 2d round?

Going 5th is understandable, 2nd round is a steal!

I got Stanton in the second round, 17th overall and quite excited about it from what
I've read about the guy then took Parker with the 24th pick which I'm also pleased with,
even though I think he may be a closer in the future. Just getting back into this after a
very long time so had to play catch up. Wanted to thank everyone, this site is awesome,
looking forward to contributing. :-D
