Yep, I just saw that. Well, I'm quite surprised actually. It could be good for fantasy players as I expect Fowler isn't owned in most leagues aside from dynasty leagues, but I don't know what this will do to Spilly's playing time. Assuming Fowler starts regularly in CF (as he should, or it's a complete waste of his development), I would assume Spilly would slide over to LF and play most everyday as well. I don't know how the lineup will shake out however... Spilly may stil leadoff with Fowler down in the 8 hole, but with Fowler's speed it would make more sense for him to leadoff and Spilly to hit either second or down in the lineup.
Damn, really surprised that Fowler made the team. I own both, which is great,
Fowler @$3 (for two more years) Spilly @$1 (for three more years)
I still think Hurdle would be nuts to A) sit Fowler in the bench, after he just made the club out of spring training. Obviously he is going to start. Now the question is Spilly, who was supposed to be a fill in for Fowler just to bye time. Maybe they realized that the best thing for the team is to start both. Like my previous post stated, a lineup of the following would be ideal.
I still think Seth Smith is a solid platoon player. Mainly a Bench guy. Obviously I prefer the first lineup, (since I have both in my Keeper Auction League) and hope Hurdle does too.
What does everyone else think, and what does this do for Fowler stat wise?
I agree with the first lineup you listed, though I'd switch Hawpe and Tulo. And I'd personally start Stewart at 2B, but that doesn't seem likely to happen on Opening Day.

My Bad, Hawpe should be ahead of Tulo, I messed that one up
From the info that I've been able to gather, it seems like Fowler will be used more as a fill in for Smith (in which case Spils would play left) while also giving Spils some days off. In other words, this shouldn't affect Spils playing time whatsover, more so Smith's.
As for the batting order, I would assume Hurdle won't mess too much with the chemistry in terms of leadoff. I wold expect Spils to bat leadoff the majority of the year, unless of course he slumps pretty badly and Fowler is playing lights out. I don't expect either scenario to play out this year.
I don't know. Whomever is going to get the most playing time, Fowler or Ryan, will be a great sleeper. Fowler might be the better leadoff because of his speed, but Spilborghs has the better contact hitter. I'm going to wait and see how the season opens. BTW I just dropped Spilborghs for Kawakimi. This guy's curve ball could net him some nice K's.
10 team 5x5 roto: Re-draft, EVERYONE STARTS EXCEPT 6 RESERVES
C:B.Molina,Inge 1B:Howard 2B:Kelly Johnson 3B:Chipper SS:Tejada MI:Casilla CI:Helton OF:Hamilton,Holliday,Granderson,Hart,Hawpe U:Beltre
According to coloradorockies.com... Hurdle also said that star center-field prospect Dexter Fowler, infielder/outfielders Jeff Baker and Ian Stewart, infielder Omar Quintanilla and catcher Yorvit Torrealba have won backup jobs.
So it appears Spilborghs is still their starting CF for now atleast. Somewhat reassuring for us Spilly lovers and not so much for those jumping onto the Fowler bandwagon. I think Fowler is a year away from being fantasy relevant in normal sized leagues. I also think Smith will be the odd man out as much as Spilly when Fowler starts in CF.
