Red Sox 5th starter? Brad or Clay?

Postby chrispistol3 » Mon Mar 30, 2009 7:32 am

Who do you think it'll be? I'm short on starters and wouldn't mind adding one of these guys. Since we are limited in the number of waiver wire pickups, I'm trying to wait until one of these guys has been named. Anyone hear of any recent news on the 5th starter situation in Boston?

My guess is it will be Penny though I don't know that he is worth owning in that division. His 'breakout' year in 2006 was just a lucky HR/FB and his K rate is pretty weak. He is basically Dave Bush with a better known name, injury concerns and pitching in a much harder division.

I'm thinking it almost has to be Penny after they've paid him so much. I think Buchholz is the one that might be worth owning though. Anyone hear anything new on that rumor they might try to move Wakefield to clear a spot?

What The Rock said ^^^

They brought Penny in for this slot, and would prefer Buchholz get some more work at AAA (despite his solid spring). The youngster is still worth a spot if you've got the roster space to hold and wait. He'll be the first guy into the breech upon injury/trade/washout by another starter ... it's just a matter of time.
