Quandry: Baker/Cahill trade--WHIR

Postby rupertoooo » Mon Mar 30, 2009 6:38 am

Keeping this simple I am in a 23 keeper Dynasty League, I have the unfortunate task of dropping one of Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey or Trevor Cahill now that Cahill looks to have locked up a roster spot. Needless to say I am looking to make a move with Baker and Cahill being the bait. I realize I am probably going to lose in the return, but I cant just drop a player of that quality. I have searched the other teams needs in the league and believe these represent my best choices:

Trade 1
Baker and Cahill---------for--------Edinson Volquez

Trade 2
Baker/Cahill and Heath Bell--------for-------Ricky Nolasco and Jose Valverde

Trade 3
Baker and Cahill--------for--------Max Scherzer

If you state WHIR why dont you. I guess this is a tough one to answer since its 0 for 9.

Best trade is #2, but highly unlikely it will go through, Trade #1 looks good, but trade#3 is the most likely to happen, because unfortunatley most owners look at last years numbers, not potential, or the numbers that get neglected like k/9ip, QS, walks allowed.

comment on mine, please?

Any one of the 3 trades will be fine, make all 3 offers and grab the 1st one that answers ( I don't think any of the 3 will bite though). When none of these trades go thru, as much as I like Cahill he'd be the one I dropped because he's the one that will return less this yr.

Thanks for your help. 2 is the best one, but man its gonna be tough to pull of. 3 is your best bet.

How does #2 help you? Won't you still have three players (Slowey, Nolasco, and whomever is left of Baker/Cahill) for two spots?

Still, I kind of agree with ayebatter. I'd offer #2 first to see if you get a bite. Then offer the other two. Either way it's better than just dropping Cahill, who I'd advise you drop of the three. Baker and Slowey have the best chance of helping you now.

Kotchman vs. Ishikawa vs. An. LaRoche? Thanks!

Actually I'd easily cut the pitching prospect and not worry. You fail to forget how often pitching 'prospects' come along! Slowey has a great amount of upside and I'm personally high on Baker to be a solid #2 fantasy pitcher for years to come.
