Drop Daniel Murphy for a pitcher? WHIR!!

Postby woowoo crew » Sun Mar 29, 2009 10:22 pm

My OF consists of: Soriano, Sizemore, Bruce, and Nelson Cruz. I have Francoeur, Daniel Murphy, Jordan Schafer, and Travis Snider on the bench.

My SP are: Volquez, Vazquez, Garza, Slowey, & Lilly
My RP are: Broxton, Fuentes, Francisco, and Balfour

I have no bench pitchers. Is it more valuable to have a pitcher on the bench? If so, do I drop Daniel Murphy or try to trade him?

Available pitchers on waivers:
SP: Carpenter, Saunders, Meche, Carmona, Jimenez, O. Perez, Parra, Volstad, Maholm, Tommy Hanson
RP: Gregg, Motte, Corpas

I would pick up Carpenter, Gregg, and Corpas ASAP!

I would drop Murphy, Schafer, and Snider for those three players. Carp is looking good right now in ST. Gregg was just announced the closer, and Corpas has more value potentially than the other two. That is my opinion.

Carpenter, Maholm, Hanson if you don't mind waiting. Don't think I would drop 3 bench hitters. Murphy will be quite productive if he moves into the two slot.

Thanks for help on mine!

BLUF...
WOW nice situation to be in! I think the only pitchers you listed that might be gobbled up quickly are Carpenter, Motte & Gregg (in that order). I believe I would drop Snider and grab Carpenter, if he's not showing his old form in a few weeks then you do something different. Snider is young and the OF is packed with talent so he at worst get's sent to AAA for further development, at best shares ABs with Lind primarily. Good Luck in your decsion.

Here is what I see that may help with your decision.

Travis Snider
Killed the ball in minor league play (he is only 21 though) http://minors.baseball-reference.com/pl ... ?pid=31661
Killing the ball this spring (horrible K-BB ratio though) http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/stats/play ... rt_row=151
Crowded OF with Wells, Rios & Lind (no doubt he will share ABs) http://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fantas ... -chart/TOR

Dan Murphy--very solid (will see plenty of time in 2 hole for Mets)
See this thread for insight viewtopic.php?t=374539

Jordan Schafer--lots of talk that he will make Brave fans forget Andruw Jones (I'd hang on to him and see if Braves send him down)
See this thread for further insight viewtopic.php?f=93&t=374429

That leaves just one Jeffrey Francour to discuss amongst the bench players you listed. Who really knows what he'll do. But I personally think he'll get back on track but I'm a Braves fan, so take that for what it's worth. He has the ability to hit .285, 28HR, 100RBI. If he had those type of numbers he easily unseats Bruce and Cruz in your lineup. I think last year he put too much pressure on himself and the 07 off season weight lifting didn't help.

I agree with the poster above me.

I would hang on to Murphy and see if he gets off to a hot start, then trade him.

Drop Snider for Carpenter, if he dosent return to old form, drop him and try someone else.

ok, i dropped schafer for sandoval last night. i still have snider. i can drop him for carpenter OR try to pick schafer back up, since i just read the braves traded josh anderson. looks like schafer is the man in atlanta. however, looking at my outfielders above, i'm not sure i need schafer over a pitcher. i could drop yunel escobar and snider for carpenter and schafer. what do you think??
