10-team keeper league, 5x5, we just finished drafting and I love my squad. I have some injury concerns but its a h-2-h league, so by the time weeks really count (playoff time) I'll have just a monster team. What to you think, should I have any concerns? Am I a little thin at SP?
(One note: Once Smoltz and Santana get placed on the DL I'm going to pick up Navarro to fill in for Wieters and John Maine as another pitcher...so with that said I'm just putting them on the team and Smoltz and Santana on the DL):
C Dioner Navarro 1B Ryan Howard* 2B Ian Kinsler* 3B Miguel Cabrera* SS Miguel Tejada CI Mark Reynolds MI Elvis Andrus OF Grady Sizemore* OF Josh Hamilton* OF Manny Ramirez* OF Willy Tavares UTIL David Ortiz BEN Matt Wieters BEN Justin Upton
SP Cole Hamels* SP Adam Wainwright RP Joakim Soria RP Joey Devine P Josh Johnson P John Danks P John Maine BEN Johnny Cueto DL John Smoltz DL Ervin Santana
* - indicates a keeper
What do you think? I love the potential of this squad...I might be walking a tightrope with the pitching for the first month or two but I think the offense will be good enough to carry the squad for a bit and once everyone is healthy and, in Wieters' case, in the majors this team could be fantastic.
Your pitching is a little thin, but your batting is RIDICULOUS. It will be good for you to get Santana back. As its H2H you can afford to suffer some pitching losses at the top of the season, because once your other SPs are healthy its going to be a pretty solid team.
your offense is second to none, your pitching is thin with Hamels having elbow troubles but the positive is that Wainwright has been spectacular this spring, maybe try and trade a bat for a solid #1 SP..... overall a nice team should definitely contend
Your offense is crazy, u should have no concerns there. Your pitching on the other hand could use some work. Near the end of the year, u could trade Upton to an owner out of contention for a top pitcher for a championship run.
Thanks guys, your feedback is pretty much what I've been thinking. With that in mind I'm most likely going to pull the trigger on a 2-for-1 trade: Ian Kinsler for Dustin Pedroia and Jon Lester.
I'll have two extra spots once Santana and Smoltz hit the DL so I'll have Lester instead of Maine, and Pedroia instead of Kinsler. I think my offense is still jack diesel and getting Lester kinda makes me feel better about the staff for the first month while Santana is working his way back.
Any more thoughts on the team or on this deal? Thanks guys.
Excellent offense, but I agree with the other posters that your pitching staff is very thin. You have an above-average outfield, and two good sleepers on the bench in Wieters and Upton. You don't really have any available trade bait for a trade for a pitcher, so just keep your eye glued on the waiver wire.
EDIT: Just saw your trade and I like it. Although you give up Kinsler and offense (Which you have quite enough of) you gain a good pitcher and a decent infield replacement in Pedroia.
