Doing My 1st 5x5 Draft, How Do I Approach It? Diff from h2h

Postby Salty-Dog » Sun Mar 29, 2009 9:34 am

I am fairly new to fantasy, I've only done H2H leagues, what should I do differently as opposed to h2h draft?

I need to make sure I get speed, how important a priority do I make it?

I need K's, do I focus on guys with low walk rates/hi k's and eschew W/L categories?

Thanks for any input... ;-D

Drafting a balanced team is the key in Roto compared to H2H. Like you say, you have to pay for SB in Roto unlike H2H but don't overpay. There are a lot of 20 SB nuggets out there that can be had later in the draft and also my personal favorite Figgins who can be slotted into 2B in Yahoo leagues and goes relatively late. I wouldn't ignore Wins but yes I'd value the rates higher but I do that in H2H as well. Also, remember that you can use a MR combo (say IDK Putz and Balfour) to build a mini-Ace.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

amazinz really covered it well, so ill just add/reinforce what he said

you cant punt any categories in roto since it can kill your entire team if you do...balance is definitely the key in roto
speed is something you need to look at a little more heavily, but i wouldnt over-value it too much

as far as pitching goes, W's are fickle, so just look for good pitchers as you normally would
RP are pretty much what they are, need to get saves, but you can get set-up guys to help with ratios, Ks and vulture a few wins
