Use waiver on Wieters?

Postby nolanwood » Sun Mar 29, 2009 8:18 am

12 Team H2H 5x5 using .obp instead of .avg

I've got the #1 waiver priority and was really looking forward to having that advantage this season. Wieters was just dropped - should I use my #1 waiver before the season even starts? Is there anybody that could make a bigger impact than Wieters this year who isn't in the Yahoo database? My offense could use a boost, and I have an empty bench spot available to add him.

Here's my team:

C Geovany Soto
(ChC - C)

1B Kevin Youkilis
(Bos - 1B,3B)

2B Brian Roberts
(Bal - 2B)

3B Chipper Jones
(Atl - 3B)

SS Derek Jeter
(NYY - SS)

CI Alex Gordon
(KC - 3B)

MI Rickie Weeks
(Mil - 2B)

OF Josh Hamilton
(Tex - OF)

OF Jay Bruce
(Cin - OF)

OF Andre Ethier
(LAD - OF)

OF Adam Jones
(Bal - OF)

OF Daniel Murphy
(NYM - OF)

Util Carlos Guillén
(Det - 1B,3B)

I'll confess I'm not seeing a true dropper here (Save maybe Carlos Guillen), nor do I know whether you've got a bench slot to avoid missing stats while Wieters is in AAA.

Still, I can't imagine you'll get a better young player this year than the concensus #1 overall prospect in baseball, and this is well worth your waiver.

I mentioned above I have an open bench slot, so I wouldn't even have to drop anybody. I agree - I can't think of anybody making a bigger impact who isn't listed in the Yahoo database. Thanks for the help!! :)

Two important bits for me to have overlooked. Still, I wanted him for you not knowing that. Now, it's a slam dunk. :-)

Definitely grab Wieters and no other prospect is expected to have as much impact this year, he's clearly the best hitting prospect.

You have Soto and you play in a 1 C league. I wouldn't want to waste the bench spot let alone the waiver priority on Wieters in this situation.

you don't need 2 catchers but you could use wieters or soto in a trade to get better, so I say get him and stash him on your bench for 6-7 weeks.
