Looking to pick up J Zimmerman, drop anyone? WHIR

Postby ytorf » Sat Mar 28, 2009 7:05 pm

Been hearing a lot of talk about Jordan Zimmerman around the cafe lately, wondering if he's worth an upgrade over any of my backup pitchers.

Hiroki Kuroda
Brandon Morrow
Chris Volstad

I'm thinking Volstad is the guy I'd drop. It's a head-to-head point league, and our one big twist is that quality starts are worth twice as much as wins. I'm thinking Zimmerman has better stuff, but Volstad did a pretty great job in his 80 or so innings last year. Any thoughts? thanks!

You're thinking right in dropping Volstad. At the worst, Zimmerman will be like Cueto and give you ample strikeouts, and at best he will have better ERA around the low 4's. Volstad doesn't miss enough bats to keep up last year's numbers.

Fantasy sports are ruled by the 50-50-90 rule...

Anytime you have a 50/50 choice between two players, 90% of the time, you'll get it wrong

Zimmerman should be better than Volstad. even in the minors Volstad's numbers wernt as good as he had last season with Florida. he doesnt get many K's at all.
if/when he struggles he could find himself back in the minors. hes only 22 years old.
