I'm in a 10 team head to head league drafting at the elbow with 2 picks to make. Our points are 1 point for R, RBI, BB; 2 points for SB; 1 pt for single, 2 for double, 3 for triple, 4 for HR (strikeouts and avg. are not factored). Pitchers get 10 for W, -5 for L, 7 for save, 1 per inning and k.
I'm thinking H. Ramirez, Wright, Reyes, Pujols, Sizemore are off the board for sure...leaving the potential for:
M. Cabrera Braun Teixeira Howard Beltran Rollins Santana or Lincecum Kinsley Utley Berkman ARod?
How would you rank the above players based upon this league's scoring? Which position do you see dropping off the most by waiting until the 29th pick to wait for (SS and 2B stick out to me)? There is a lot of depth at 1B...but it is going to be tough not drafting one at one of my first 2 picks. Thanks for your help - leave a link.
bump...need a little help here guys. I know MCab and Braun will most likely be gone, but the rest of them could be available at the 10 and 11 pick. Please leave a link.
If Utley slips in your draft then take him for sure but then I'd look at Santana who gets undervalued but is generally better than the hitters available at the end of the 1st. I would gamble and try to grab Arod at 15. Arod doesn't lose as much value in H2H as he does in Roto; unless you think Arod might make it back to the Rd 3 pick.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
MCab and Braun will be gone. There's a huge tier break at 2nd base after the first five; as a result I'd make sure that one of your two picks (I'm assuming you're in a snake draft) is either Utley or Kinsler. For me, I'd pair that with Rollins if available, Howard or Tex if not.
OK...looks like people are mainly considering Tex, Rollins, Utley, Howard, and Santana (MCab and Braun trumping any if available). Is it too risky to go with Utley/Rollins due to position scarcity in a league that favors big hitters? Please leave a link.
I would go with Utley and Rollins if available, but, wrt Rollins, not because of position scarcity. In a 10 team league there are enough quality SS to go around - guys like Hardy and Peralta are very playable in any format. I like Rollins because by adding 40 steals at an MI position, you are less-constrained when picking OFs. You just need one more source of steals (like Kemp or Victorino) and you're set. You can pick classic 4-cat OFs without wondering about their SB potential - and the Dyes, Ludwicks and Hawpes of the world are going very late in drafts.
