does anyone by any chance have the stats from Marmol's Save Opps last year? cuz if im not mistaken they really aren't that sexy... i mean why would you 2nd guess sweet Lou? youd think after all these years of managing some people on here would open their eyes up to the possibility that Lou may know just what the hell he is doing, hes not just gonna name Gregg the closer and have Marmol who damn near everyone who knows him knows how electric his stuff is being the setup man... there is some kind of thought process to do that... get a clue...

Why would you 2nd guess Piniella? Because he's an idiot perhaps? He's an old time manager that hasn't yet embraced the new age thinking in baseball. Dusty Baker is another one. There is no plausible reason for Kevin Gregg to be the closer. Marmol is a dominant pitcher and he has the stats to prove it. Gregg is a FB pitcher in Wrigley. His K/BB ratio has gone down 3 years running (3.4, 2.2, 1.6). He only made it through last year because he had a low hit % (26%) which is luck induced. None of this probably means anything to you because you're a Cubs fan so Piniella is probably always right, but come June when Marmol is closing, remember this thread.

Setup men frequently have butt-ugly Save numbers. They can't get many saves, but they sure can blow them.

Any residual respect I had for Lou Piniella disappeared with the whole Rich Hill episode. If he was trying to undermine Hill's confidence and destroy his career he couldn't have done a better job. Conduct unbecoming not just a major league manager, but any adult.
