need a 3B and C

Postby facekdr » Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:45 am

Somehow i ended up with Joe Mauer and Arod. since they will both be out for whats looking like a month or more, i need to fill their spots. i drafted Alexei ramirez thinking he could fill in at third but he is not eligible. my team, 10 team h2h league stats and FA is below. let me know what you think!

Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL
Stat Cat: R, HR, RBI, SB, K, AVG, OPS, W, CG, SV, K, ERA, WHIP
My team:
Joe Mauer
Joey Votto
Ian Kinsler
Jose Reyes
Matt Holliday
Adam Dunn
Shane Victorino
Alexei Ramirez
Ryan Ludwick
Lastings Milledge
Alex Rodriguez

available FAs:
3B:
Edwin Encarnacion
Carlos Guillen
Melvin Mora
Troy Glaus
Hank Blaylock
Ian Stewart
C:
AJ Pierzinski
Ramon Hernandez
Kelly Shoppach
Chris Snyder
Jeff Clement
Jarrod Saltalamacchia
Yadier Molina
Taylor Teagarden

I am planning on dropping one of my pitchers for one 3B/C and when Joe or Arod goes on the DL pick up the other. 1 other team in our league needs a catcher. The top ranked players on the wire are Encarnacion, Kelly Johnson, Guillen, Denard Span, and Jose Lopez.

Let me know who you think i should pick up now, and who i can prolly wait for the start of the season to grab.

Thanks!! WHIR!!

For the 3B opening i would pick up either mora or blalock and for the C spot i would pick up pierzynski
Other than that, thats a pretty good looking team you have there. Kelly Johnson wouldnt be a bad pickup either

i say top 3B would be Mora, which i think hes a nice fillin while arod is out otherwise i would ride Edwin's hot streaks, hes a real streaky hitter, but when on hes ON...i wouldn't even look at Blalock to many injury concerns and his projections by alot of people are severely inflated... i also agree AJ is the best C available... thanks for the help on mine!

It will sound strange but I think you should pick up a couple of Cincy Reds for both of your needs.

Edwin Encarnacion at 3B (he has some power), I really like him a lot. And as for your C spot I like a lot of your choices there but I'd go with Ramon Hernandez. He has some descent upside going into this season.

I would go with Mora and Hernandez, but the difference between Hernandez and Pierzynski is pretty negligible.

Thanks for the help with mine.

For the catcher situation, I think Pierzynski, Hernandez and Saltalamaccia are all basically equal. Salt probably has the highest up-side, but is also the riskiest. If Sandoval happens to be available in your league (and is elligible at catcher) grab him immediately, though.

The pickings at 3rd base are rather slim. I'm not a fan of any of those guys. But Encarnacion is probably your best bet, with Guillen and Blalock not too far behind.

Knowing Ks & OPS are counted for batters in your league... my choices would be Mora & Pierzinski. If you're feeling adventurous, I'd take a risk on Kurt Suzuki (though he's not in your list, I'd assume he's available in your league). The discipline he's shown at the plate is awesome so his Ks are not anywhere nearly as high as say, Shoppach's, for example. I'm also excited to see what can happen now that the A's have much better hitters surrounding this guy.

I would go Mora and AJ, (he hits a little better than Ramon, and Shppach isn't guaranteed starter time), both are easy drops as well, when A-Rod and Mauer are better.

help with mine?
