Trade involving Markakis/Rios/Votto... WHIR!!

Postby bazzy_51 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 10:55 am

Whats goin on all... just drafted my last league of the year last night, its my ESPN Keeper (we keep 5 per year)...
5X5 league + Doubles, Total Bases, OBP and Holds, Shutouts, K/9....
its a H2H 12 teamer starting c, 1b, 2b, 3b, ss, lf, cf, rf, util, util, sp, sp, sp, sp, sp, rp, rp, rp, rp

Guy said hes looking to trade Markakis and Rios as a combo for a top 7 to 20 bat or a top 5 arm... was thinking about proposing:

I give Joey Votto/Justin Verlander
I get Nick Markakis/Alex Rios

or

I give Ryan Howard/Ryan Spilbourghs
I get Nick Markakis/Alex Rios

Or should i try something else?

my team:

C- VMart
1B- Ryan Howard
2B- Ian Kinsler
3B- David Wright
SS- JJ Hardy
LF- Jayson Werth
CF- BJ Upton
RF- Magglio Ordonez
UTIL- Joey Votto
UTIL- James Loney
BN- Mark Reynolds
BN- Nelson Cruz
BN- Ryan Spilbourghs

SP- Felix Hernandez
SP- Josh Beckett
SP- AJ Burnett
SP- Carlos Zambrano
SP- Justin Verlander
RP- Joey Devine
RP- Brad Ziegler
RP- Chris Perez
RP- Scott Shields
BN- Johnny Cueto
BN- Jordan Zimmerman
BN- Ubaldo Jimenez

Availables: Arroyo, Oliver Perez, Ben Sheets, Pelfrey, Maholm, Wakefield, Penny, and definitely gonna go grab Tommy Hanson as we have a 4 man minor league system so i can add him and drop him down...

what do yall think?

I don't think the first trade is enough for him to accept but would definitely do it if you could. I can't knock anyone for trying to land Markakis but Rios isn't much of an upgrade to your OF so I can't justify giving up Howard for them.

Yeah, both trades are heavily in your favor. Can't see most owners accepting either.

i think you are deep enough at first to give up howard, but you would have to get better than spilbourghs. if you could swap in werth or ordonez it would be worth it. still a major upgrade to your OF

one big thing is this guy is pissed, he was checking out top players at certain cats (messing around a couple seconds before the draft) and somehow highlighted Jose Hernandez and lost internet connection for a couple seconds right as the draft started, shitty luck for him he ended up taking Hernandez #1 overall in the draft so hes just looking to shuffle players, basically willing to take the hit to get a top 20 bat and just rough this year out to have a couple good keepers... so hes willing to give up a little extra to get a top guy... change anything? ill post his roster and see if yall can think up a different trade that would still benefit me...

C-Chris Snyder
1b-Mike Jacobs
2b-Orlando Hudson
3b-Edwin Encarnacion
SS-Orlando Cabrera
LF-Conor Jackson
CF-Alex Rios
RF-Ichiro
UTIL-Nick Markakis
UTIL-Willy Taveras
BN-Michael Bourn

SP-Roy Oswalt
SP-Chad Billingsley
SP-Yovani Gallardo
SP-Edinson Volquez
SP-Javier Vazquez
RP-Brad Lidge
RP-Jose Valverde
RP-Jonathan Broxton
RP-Brian Wilson
BN-Chad Qualls
BN-Erik Bedard
BN-Jose Arredondo
BN-Hong-Chih Kuo

he stacked up on pitching and is now trying to deal to get a top bat, he said for some reason Jackson, Ichiro and Broxton are untouchable, and said hes looking to deal Markakis/Rios together for a top 7 to 20 bat or a top 5 arm

i think the only players he'll want from you are Howard or Wright. I don't see any top 5 arms on your staff. Wright is off limits. So Howard is the only available option. Now do i think losing Howard and gaining Markakis/Rios is an upgrade, well that depends. Howard in H2H is huge some weeks and dismal others, but its hard to argue his HR/RBI production. Markakis is a great player, and Rios isn't far behind. But you already have a lot of 20/20 guys (concerning Rios). So i don't think the addition of Rios is a huge upgrade for you. If i were you i wouldn't do the deal. But if you value Rios On you team, higher than i do than go for it.

thanks for the help on mine

Its an interesting scenario. I would see if he'd be willing to trade Ichiro as well. I think Votto is going to be very solid this year and pushing 30 HR, but he's not going to hit 45 HR like Howard. However, he should hit for a better AVG. I think that maybe offering Howard and Werth for Markakis and Ichiro and see what happens. I'm not a big Rios fan personally, always feel the hype is bigger than the numbers.

I like the very first trade you mentioned. Markakis and Rios will have really good years.

I like Verlander as much as the next guy, but there is no way he is a "top 5 arm"

That leads me to believe that your first trade senario doesnt fit his trade guidelines

I would be all over either one of those trades if he takes it.
Fantasy sports are ruled by the 50-50-90 rule...

Anytime you have a 50/50 choice between two players, 90% of the time, you'll get it wrong

I like deal 1 more. If he doesn't take it, offer AJ instead.
