Santana vs. Haren

Postby manalishi » Sat Mar 28, 2009 7:24 am

Draft coming up, and these are the two best SP available.

Which do you think would be the better use of money:

Santana in the $35 to ?? range,
or
Haren in the $25-$35 range.

I'm assuming Haren will be slightly less. The question is, should the extra money simply be spent to get Santana? Will he be that much better?
If you could afford either, but were only to take one, which route would you prefer to go.
TIA

You're paying for a superior ERA in Santana. The other 3 categories should be similar, so it depends if you're planning on carrying high ERA high strikeout pitchers on your team. If so, take Santana.

It depends. Are you participating in the auction right now? Do you have any other pitchers in your team at the moment?

I'd probably prefer to have Haren because I almost never pay more than $30 for a pitcher, but, again, it depends on the situation.

Agreed with KC. I think the $30 rule is a good rule of thumb.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
