BJ Upton too early at #17?

Postby Berg » Sat Mar 28, 2009 3:56 am

My league is 5x5 roto using OBP (non-keeper). I have picks #16 and #17 and don't pick again until #32 and #33, and I'm sure Upton won't be around by then. I was just wondering where he was being drafted in your leagues and whether he would be too much of a reach at #17. I know he won't be healthy to start the season but his 20/40 potential is hard to pass up, and since we use OBP instead of AVG he's even more valuable - I just don't know if it's too much of a gamble that early when I could go with the solid consistency of players like Berkman and Beltran instead. Any input is appreciated and WHIR.

In the last two drafts I was in, he went #13 and #17. I think that's a good time to pick him since he should have a nice bounceback year from injury.

Upton is about even with Beltran, and a bit better pick than Berkman.

I got pretty lucky this year. I don't know if everybody just forgot about him because I ended up picking up BJ on pick 25, but I will admit that I am pretty concerned about his injury. Hopefully it will only be the first week like they say. I'm more worried about if he will perform as well as past years though

If you want Upton, you'll definitely have to take him at 17, which isn't really too early at all.
