Paul Hoynes, of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Indians OF Shin-Soo Choo said there is a chance he could be excused from military obligation in South Korea. Choo, a native of South Korea, owes his country two years of military service by the time he is 30 years old. He turns 27 years old July 13. (KFFL)
How much should I be worried about this? Choo is nothing more than an upside pick at this point, but he is one of my breakout picks this year.
Maybe he could get some sort of excuse from it as a goodwill ambassador for Korea or something?
Crazy example, but when Slayers Boxer (pretty much the most famous professional Starcraft player) joined the Korean Air Force, they ended up forming a pro starcraft team formed of Air Force members that competed in the pro league there. He was still in the military but he really didn't do any active duty. Choo could probably get the same deal.
(In case you are unaware, Starcraft is probably about as popular in Korea as baseball or soccer.)

I was in korea for a few weeks and they had about 3 tv channels dedicated to starcraft matches... I wasted a good few hours watching it being so amazed that it was on tv!
