i seem to be getting this guy in every league at what i see is good value. 85th pick in an NL only league, 140th in a mixed, and for $20 in a 20 team auction that overvalues SP
why does nobody want him? i understand he was erratic at closer and only has one good year at SP...but getting him in the 12th round seems like fantastic value. even if i end up dropping him oh well...ive dropped plenty of Sp i grab in the 12th round before.
i just see if he even comes close to his effort last year id be really happy. and i see his rank in a lot of rankings very low. why all the hate?

yeah I'm kind of bummed I haven't been able to grab him in either of my 2 drafts yet.

I think its worry about the huge increase in IPs last year making him an injury candidate. There's a lot of other guys going around the same time in mixed league drafts who either have less injury risk or more upside IMHO.
Its not that he's being hated on, but more that there's other pitchers who I'd rather take there.

A lot of bullpen guys that move to starter experience a dip in production the second season. I don't know if it is from a little arm fatigue settling in from the extra innings or just the league adjusting to them. You also have to keep in mind that Dempsters peripherals didn't agree with his ERA last year. He had a 3.94 xFIP compared to a 4.15 in 07 yet he had a 2.96 ERA compared to an 4.72 in 07.
I think Dempster is going to be more in the high 3s or low 4s for his ERA with decent K and good wins. I value him a lot like Lilly and Zambrano to be honest.

I think the 'unlove' is a combo of everything that's been said. The increase in innings and the fact that people think he pitched well above his potential. I would be extremely happy to get him as a #3 or #4 late in the middle of a draft. He should get a nice share of wins, and a moderate regression in ratios still fits him as a very nice piece of a fantasy rotation.
FWIW, I see him in between last year's numbers and what most projections have him at.
Very good value!
