Braun lost a fly ball in the lights and it hit him square on his throwing hand. Lucky it wasn't his forehead. This guy is a DH waiting to happen ...

UPDATE: Ryan Braun's x-rays were negative. He is offically listed as day-to-day with a right thumb contusion.

Peoria, Ariz. - Ryan Braun just left the game against the Padres in the middle of the second inning after a liner got into the lights and hit him in the right thumb for his first error ever as a leftfielder in the first inning.

That means his departure isn't related to his strained intercostal. We don't have much more info than that right now as we just watched the leftfielder walk to the clubhouse.

FSN Wisconsin just did a live interview with Ken Macha and he said Braun is going for X-rays, which he, Braun, isn't too happy about. Sounds like the team is being cautious with this one even if Braun didn't want to go to get the x-rays.

Here is what Macha told FSN Wisconsin:

"A line drive got in the lights and hit him on the thumb. They're taking him to get some x-rays on the thumb. He wasn't feeling real good about (going for x-rays). We've got our fingers crossed."

I'm very afraid of this guy. Sometimes I just think he wants to be injured. Even though all of the newspapers report that he had "no significant damage," I bet Braun will be greatly hindered by his thumb injury. Trust me...I play baseball...you need your thumb

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, "You can't blame Ryan Braun for looking forward to the end of spring training. At this point, the Milwaukee Brewers' star-crossed leftfielder just wants to get out of Arizona in one piece. Braun thought he had suffered a broken right thumb when struck by a line drive Tuesday night in a game against San Diego. Braun lost the drive in the lights and was hit on the side of the thumb, which turned out to be just bruised. "I thought it was broken when it hit it," said Braun. "I couldn't move my thumb. It was no deflection off the glove or anything. It hit right on the side of my thumb. But I went to get X-rays and it was fine. I've iced it a lot."

Braun was in the lineup today in a ST game. His thumb is not an issue anymore. But I am telling you this side issue will be around all year. There is nothing you can do for it but rest it and Braun isn't one to sit out games.

Well having just drafted Braun I am deeply concerned... I don't think the thumb issue will be big either but definitely the other problem will, as it seems to be recurring frequently.

Definitely avoid all players who may have lingering injuries, since there is the chance they could shut it down and be a total bust for the year.
