Ryan Zimmerman, Javier Vazquez Trade... WHIR

Postby etraum » Thu Mar 26, 2009 8:05 pm

I have a plethora of 3b and an owner in my league contacted me about Ryan Zimmerman. I don't have much starting pitcher depth on my team and i would love to get another good pitcher. Do you think I am getting fair value if I accept Zimmerman for Vazquez? or should I just keep my current roster and pickup a free agent? best free agent SP include: Edwin Jackson, Purcey, Lannan, Sean Marshall (pretty weak). He also has: Haren, Garza, and Harden but I doubt he would give any of them up for Zimmerman.
My league settings are: 12 team, H2H (points), short-term keeper league (keep two guys from previous draft). We start 7 pitchers (of any combo). Our league does not favor closers too well (ie Papelbon score ~ 650 pts last year vs Paul Maholm's 640 pts) - so I usually just go the starter route.

My Team

C- Ramon Hernandez
1B Pujols
2B Weeks
3B Longoria (Keeper)
SS S Drew
OF Markakis
OF Bay
OF Victorino
DH C Davis
U Zimmerman

P Lester
P Liriano
P Gallardo
P J Johnson
P Danks
P Cain
P Cueto

Bench: Butler, I. Stewart, Lastings Milledge,
J. Zimmerman, T. Hanson, K. Escobar

i would do it. IMO Zimmerman is overrated. hes not really one of the better power hitting 3B. hes more likely top top out in the low 20's.
Vazquez is going back to the NL with Atlanta where he should be productive. he wasnt very good in 2008, but remember what he did in 2007. he had numbers in 2008 that suggest he should have been better. .328 BABIP which is higher than it should be, plus 68.3 LOB% which is lower than it should be.
i would expect numbers closer to 2007, and IMO thats worth more than Zimmerman.

I don't like you giving up Zimmerman. Yeah, Vazquez is going to the NL, bla bla. Now if he was going to the NL West or Central I'd say go for it, but it's the NL EAST. No thanks on that trade.

I would do this!!!!

I think Vazquez is going to have a bounce back year. I think he is good for 14-16 wins, 210+ Ks and a 1.20-1.25 whip.

He is a solid #3 with potentail for a decent #2 on your team.

Please help with me!

I consider Zimmerman and Vazquez pretty similar. It's a fair deal, and it helps out your team. I think you should do it.
