Fair Deal?

Postby JRM4833 » Thu Mar 26, 2009 7:01 pm

I'm currently working out a trade in a deep points league. Currently I'm contemplating offering Hamels and Spilborghs or Murphy for Hamilton and Sherrill. I don't like Sherrill and don't have much confidence in him, but I'm pretty weak at RP and have been stocking up on riskier RPs in the hopes that a few will stick (weekly lineups with 3 RP slots). Currently my SPs are Hamels, Lester, Dempster, Dice-K, Bedard, Duscherer, E. Jackson and Sheets (we start 5). My RPs are Gregg, Lyon, Devine, Putz and Looper (also with SP eligibility). My OFs are Holliday, Victorino, Nady, Spilborghs and Daniel Murphy.

He's offered to include an SP like Moyer, Bush, Wakefield, Braden or Wellemeyer, but they don't really do it for me.

Carlos Lee could also replace Hamilton in this deal. Hamilton is a little more keepable (slightly better contract) than Lee but not by a lot. Hamels is on par with Lee as far as being able to keep him for next year. I think it's a pretty fair trade that helps both teams. Thoughts?

What other RPs does he have which you might be able to get in the deal instead of Sherrill?

He really doesn't have any other spare parts that fit and I'm not looking to have 6 Os on my roster, which is how the 2 extras got thrown into the deal.

i wouldnt even want Sherrill in a deep league. he was terrible last season in the 2nd half (6.59 ERA/ 1.76 WHIP) and he wasnt even that good in the 1st half (4.08 ERA/ 1.41 WHIP). if Ray is healthy he is a much better option than Sherrill, and even if Sherrill starts the season as closer i dont think he keeps that job long.

i dont think i would want to lose Hamels considering your other SP. IMO Matsuzaka/Lester/Dempster all over produced in 2008. Bedard is coming back off an injury. Duscherer cant stay healthy.

Gregg could be named Cubs closer which wouldnt be too bad. Devine if healthy i think is a better bet in Oakland.. so maybe you wont be too bad.
