I've been in cafe leagues the past couple of years. We both know that not only would this trade not be accepted in a cafe league, the sender of the trade would probably be publicly ridiculed.
I'm not pissed I didn't get the deal. Not my personality. I don't see a lopsided trade and think, gosh I wish I knew that owner was an idiot so I could rip him off first.

IDK. I actually see more 'questionable' trades in highly competitive leagues because people are more aggressive, willing to follow their own opinion, rather than be married to consensus, such as MDP, or caring about public ridicule.

Oh, yes, those cafe leagues where 1st rounders are regularly traded for 8th rounders the day after the draft. ;-7

not ticked at all... did you read my posts? I'm not interested in making lopsided trades. I absolutely hate the guys that send out a hundred ridiculous trades to their league hoping some idiots will bite on a couple of them.
The trade was vetoed before I posted. Just interested in hearing what the cafe had to say. A guy in the league actually offered the noob $100 if the Harden/Hardy side ends up being better. I've heard all these arguments before. Some of them I find kind of unrealistic, like the whole you-have-to-prove-it's-collusion argument. Like cheaters would actually admit they cheated. And the idea that the noob needs to learn his lesson. Trade goes through or not, the noob has very little chance of winning this league. The trade actually effects the good teams much more than the noob because they are the ones that stand the chance of losing money as a direct result of the trade. Very rarely do I vote to veto. In this instance I did because it was so lopsided and it was obvious one manager had no clue what he was doing and stated as much.

based on last year's numbers, how is that is that trade so lopsided??????

based on Yahoo's ranking, Harden #23 and Hardy #126 VS. Pence #112 and Rollins #88

if these players perform like last year, the noob wins the trade!!!! Who are you to say who is getting the better end?????

This is exactly why vetoing a baseball trade is nearly impossible... no one can predict a career year, a long term injury, etc. so you have to let 99% of all trades go through....

obviously GMs in real baseball make mistakes as well....

Yeah Rollins and Harden had comparable value last year. But since Rollins generally goes in the 2nd and Harden in the 8th you'll have people who can't see beyond that.

Cliff Lee had as much value as Hanley Ramirez last year... so what?

You can cite a lot of examples like this and that's my point. Consensus is often wrong, which is why most experienced players don't want to enforce it in their leagues. But whatever, let's just agree to disagree because this is turning into a circular argument.

Yes we can agree to disagree. I was less looking at last year's stats and more looking at where they were picked. The guy who picked Rollins didn't think he was going to put up last year's stats. He thought he was the 12th best player for this year. I don't see it as much different than trading a 1st round pick for an 8th round pick.

Oh and congrats on the 18K ;-D

so basically trading is not allowed in your league, unless players picked close in the draft are swapped!!!!

makes perfect sense :-L

let's say for example, that the noob had a terrible draft and was short on pitching and Hardin was the best he could do, while getting Hardy as a replacement for Rollins and sliding a guy on his bench in for Pence.... you are telling me that is vetoable?!?!?

team needs and other aspects dictate trades, not popular league opinion!!!!
