10 Team, 5x5, non keeper

I went into an auction last night with plan in place to spend all my money on hitting, 1 top tier SP, and 1 top RP. Then I planned on filling in the rest of my pitchers with players I can get for $1. There are usually a bunch of mid tier pitchers that get overlooked and can be gotten for that. Much to my dismay, every mid to lower tier pitcher went for expected value. There was nothing left that fell to $1 except $1 pitchers. So, I'm stuck with a staff that needs a lot of work. I guess if anything, SP is the easiest to fix. Can my hitting compensate enough for my pitching falling behind early? Or do I need to look into making a trade?

Your hitting is top notch thats for sure. Solid and deep outfield, and I even like Carpenter and Maine this year for your rotation. I love Joey Votto this season, I dont know how much you spent on him but he will be a big producer. Is this a roto or H2H league? I would a little more worried about your pitching in a roto league, but if its a H2H league you are just fine at the moment. With guys like Utley, Pujols, and Wright...you should be among the top of the league in hitting all year.

It's roto. Which elevates the concern as I'll be fighting an uphill battle in W's and K's. There are a few pitchers on the WW worth monitoring, so all hope isn't lost. I'll just have to stay on top of things and try to pick up the guys who get off to a good start.

Votto was $9. I was really happy to get him at that price. I think he could be in for a great year.

There are more, but it's hard to distinguish one from another at that point. I went into this spur of the moment, so I didn't have a list or do a very good job of keeping track of who was left other than the list in the draft room. I thought of Smoltz, but I couldn't find him to nominate him.
