Well there are a few reasons, it limits his trade value. If he can show some promise this year more teams would be after him. Secondly it's been said how he evidently takes a long time to warm up, which limits him some as a RP if it's true. Also he did have a few years of being hurt, that didn't help his developement. However the last 2 years he has been pretty good, logging 131 and 149 innings respectively.

I believe I've heard that Neimann takes longer to get ready before. Maybe thats because he's so long and lanky or because he's not used to relieving but that could likely be fixed with getting him up earlier or by getting him used to relieving. I believe both Neimann and Hammel are out options, correct me if I'm wrong, and I understand the want to maximize his value and that he has more potential than just everybody save Kaz and Price if he did proper in the rotation. But with all the young talented arms the Rays still have in their system finding a stellar closer type in Neimann wouldn't be the worst thing.

It'll be the same exact situation as Longoria's last season. He'll be with the club by the summer.

Just out of curiosity but have you ever argued for young pitchers to stay in the rotation?

For sure, but not usually oft-injured ones as Neimann has proven to be. I've been a Neimann fan for sometime but he's sorta like Adam Miller. All that potential but a lot of injuries.

In my H2H keeper league we keep three bats and three pitchers. I have Price as a 19th rounder and had to keep that value. This news just means my early draft strategy will be to get the best SPs with 1st round and third round picks.
My Friendliness bar...recently shrunk from 11.3 to 10mm long!!

That's not really fair, Niemann has been fine for 2 straight years now pitching 280 total innings. Miller on the other had has pitched only 94 innings in the last 2 years.

Hey, I'd love nothing more for Neimann to live up to hype and prosper as a starter as he'd have more value there than as a reliever. But Neimann has had a good deal of injuries since he was drafted in '04.
