Is Ryan Franklin really worth holding onto if there are other good players out there in free agency ala Daniel Murphy, Brandon Morrow etc.? Franklin seems like he has no chance to get the closer job even though he is "in the mix." Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.
I think even Tony LaRussa would rather have Motte closing games for him than Ryan Franklin. Franklin's not worth owning IMO. If you're desperate for a guy who could potentially receive save opportunities look at Carlos Villanueva.
Motte seems to be running away with the closer role. And this is coming from a guy that drafted Franklin when Motte was available in the KCKL so I wouldn't take him.
I'm holding on to him in the ECL (12 teams with 27 roster spots each, no holds) until La Russa makes his choice in a few days. No use keeping him anywhere past that if he's not going to be given some time in the 9th IMO.
Rocinante2: you know Rocinante2: its easy to dismiss the orioles as a bad team ofanrex: go on Rocinante2: i'm done Rocinante2: lmao
I see Franklin behind at least 3 guys for holds and saves in that pen---Motte, Perez, and McClellan. He's simply not a very good pitcher. Tony gets obsessed on even mediocre guys, so he could be given the opportunities. But, he's going to hurt you in other ways.

I wouldn't put Perez on any reliable depth chart right now with his shoulder problem.
I'd also put Kinney ahead of McClellan based mostly on their springs but also based on Kinney's performance when he was healthy.

Thanks. I originally typed "behind at least 4 guys..." then braincramped and could not think who else was there. Conceivablry, one or two of the 36 LOOGYs Tony insisted on inviting to camp might also be in the mix.
