Did I make a good trade?

Postby Salty-Dog » Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:32 am

New here, any help is appreciated. This is only my second season of playing fantasy baseball.

First question is, what does WHIR mean?

Second is, I am in a H2H, 10 team league. I traded Kershaw and Pelfrey for Joe Nathan. The guy I traded with picked up a bunch of relievers so he could trade them (i think) - in another transaction w/ someone he traded away Lidge for Carlos Pena and Brad Hawpe, so I clearly gave him too much in my opinion. He was willing to trade these guys away for nothing apparently. Then, another guy in our league dropped Marmol after another one of his blowups, I quickly picked him up. I guess that's besides the point, but just wanted to get your guys thoughts here. Thank you and I hope to help out and contribute as well! :-D

My Team:

Soto - C
Pujols - 1B
Brian Roberts - 2B
Peralta - SS
Aramis Ramirez - 3B
Manny - OF
Abreu - OF
Carlos Lee - OF
Dye - U
Webb - SP
Dempster - SP
Billingsley - SP
Danks - SP
Garza - SP
Nathan - RP
Broxton - RP

Reserves:
Cantu
Adam Jones
Marmol
Carmona

WHIR = will help in return

Kershaw and Pelfrey for Nathan is a good trade and your rotation still looks good.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

I think Kershaw+Pelfrey for Nathan is ok - Nathan's been one of the most consistent top tier closers, along with Rivera, over the last several years. Kershaw and Pelfrey are both 'ace potential' guys, but there's still the uncertaintly issue - particularly on Kershaw (will he give a 3.00 ERA this season, or will it take a few for him to become an 'ace'?).

You also cleared a roster spot, where you nabbed Marmol.

I personally wouldn't deal Pena+Hawpe for Lidge, but that's me.

Thanks amazins - appreciated - I still like my rotation too - i'm a mets fan too, hope we can get it together this year...

V - thanks - that's the one thing i regret is giving up both of my "upside" guys - as for the Lidge trade, I didn't do it, but the guy I traded with did - I think it's an awful trade. What i'm saying is if he would make that trade I probably could've just traded one of either Kershaw or Pelfrey along w/ Garza and he woulda accepted...
