Obviously Kershaw is Mr. Hype, but Baker put up solid #'s last year and so was Lowe...who's better for this year? i'm favoring Baker right now, but just wanted to get some more opinions.
Kershaw is going to have up's and down's while Baker will be a little more consistent.
Baker is the Twins #1 starter this season according to ESPN depth chart. Baker will give you more inning's and a lower ERA. Kershaw could give you more K's.
It seems like Baker has James Shields/Roy Oswalt upside (i.e. solid ratios, medium K rate), while Kershaw has Scott Kazmir/Billingsley upside (higher ratios, including a higher K/9 rate).
Now I'm leaning more towards Kershaw because I already have Oswalt and Shields and could use the higher K rate possibility with Kershaw. Plus, the Dodgers are on a better team in a weaker division (Giants/D-Backs/Padres/Rockies vs Indians/Tigers/White Sox/Royals)...thanks for the help so far guys...anyone else? And this is a five keeper league, and for this year I kept Howard/C Lee/BJ/Granderson/Oswalt.
I think Baker is definitely better for this year. He'll give you a much more balanced stat line. If K's are most important than certainly Kershaw.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
