Trade offer in a very deep dynasty league. WHIR obv

Postby Yankeesin05 » Tue Mar 24, 2009 2:08 am

It's a 16 team H2H Yahoo league. We keep 15 players. This is the 4th year of our league. I was offered this trade for Stephen Drew and Carlos Zambrano. I don't like trading Drew, but, as you can see from my team, I really could use a closer. Please let me know if this is a fair trade and if it benefits my team.

My: Stephen Drew and Carlos Zambrano

Personally, I say No. I agree, you do need a closer. However, I think you can pick up a guy at some point this season, via injury, or whatever. There's always a guy that comes out of nowhere and ends up getting a lot of saves. I just dont think you're getting enough in return. Bedard and Litch? Nah Brah, that is not enough for Zambrano and Drew in my opinion.

Help me out?

No Way!

Broxton could be a top tier closer, allright.
Bedard could bounce back to posting elite K/9 with a glass shoulder. COULD.
Jesse Litch deffinately has value in a 16 man league but lets get serious.

Drew is entering his power prime(he will be 26 all season) and had a phenomenal 44 two baggers last year! Even in a yearly league this translates to a borderline top-5 stop. Factor in the fact that it is a keeper and a 16 man league(sorry to say it, but position scarcity actually matters in this situation) then Drew alone is worth more than those three players.

Zambrano has been regressing for the last 3 years, and everyone knows he is not the Carlos Zambrano of old times. This does not mean that he has no value anymore! He could easily bounce back to 07' numbers and be on the recieving end of big run support(partly because of his own bat) and win 20 Games.

The way I see it you are getting a pretty reasonable downgrade at SP and adding a #5 starter.
You get a closer(which you can always try and pick up set-up guys for Saves down the road), and give up a top-5 shortstop who is on the verge of having a huge breakout season.
And if you "solve" this closer situation by doing the trade, you create an even bigger problem for your starting SS. Who are you going to add, Yuniesky Betancourt?

This is not even close.

;-D

Closers are a lot easier to find than quality SS in a 16 team league. Khalil Greene barely cracks my top 20 at SS
C-Baker
1B-Lee
2B-Roberts
3B-Reynolds
SS-HRamirez
LF-Bay
CF-McCutchen
RF-Hawpe
UT-Willingham, Hairston
BN-FSanchez

SP-Lackey, Burnett
RP-Rivera, Wagner
P-Baker, Gregerson, Meche
BN-Motte

DL - Zimmerman, Volquez
