at the post game press conference, the korean manager revealed that he gave signs to issue a walk to ichiro and the sign was missed. the pitcher later admitted he didn't see the sign but the the pitch ichiro hit was meant to be a ball. if anyone saw on espn, the manager sat on the bench by himself after the game and watched team japan parade the field, probably pondering what would've happened if the sign was not missed.

i don't believe that one bit. the decision to pitch to ichiro was purely about pride.

actually he said the plan was actually to start ichiro out with balls and if he didn't bite, then walk him. it wasn't a call for 4 ball walk or an intentional walk but the backup catcher was unable to relay it to the pitcher. i'm wondering why the manager didn't come out or at least the catcher call for a meeting on the mound.
