Help with my first pick in 20 team keeper re-draft - WHIR

Postby Bea Arthur » Mon Mar 23, 2009 5:36 pm

Looking at a 1B or SP with my first pick (119) in a 20 team, H2H, keeper league. It should be noted, this year we decided to count OBP instead of AVG. My keepers now are Beckett, Reyes, A-Ram, Hamilton and Utley.

For 1B it looks like Votto, Pena, Huff and Dunn are probably going to be the best available.

Best SP available will probably be Volquez, Vasquez, Shields, Joba, Cain and Grienke.

Or I could reach and grab Wieters. Thoughts and rankings?

OBP League? I'd take Adam Dunn without hesitation if he's there for you.

Agreed, OBP instead of AVG transforms Dunn into a stud.

Votto and Shields are also tempting given the age factor in a keeper league.

Ugh, I really hate Dunn on a personal level, which would make it hard for me to pull the trigger, although I realize that common logic would dictate that I should. Let's pretend for my sake that he's gone. Now who?

Votto, Shields, or Volquez (in that order).

I love Votto this year. I would target him (possibly even over Dunn anyway).

I'd want Dunn, but if not him Votto. Don't let personal feelings stand in the way of a Championship though.

So is the consensus one of those 1B over any of the pitchers listed? No love for Pena?

I'd take Votto here. He has solid plate skills and has room for improvement (he can reasonably hit 30 homers this year). Dunn is also worth a look when average isn't a consideration.

I'd take Votto or Dunn over any SP (personal bias against taking SPs). Votto is gonna grow into a great keeper plus will give you some SBs
