Obviously, Dunn has some power numbers and infinite potential. His avg is what kills his worth in standard 5x5 scoring, but if OBP replaces avg, does he become a decent outfielder? His obp is generally over .350, usually closer to .400, which is much higher than other reasonably valuable players such as carlos lee.

Absolutely. Dunn has a good eye and always has good OBP. I'm optimistic that he will have a better average than 2003, and that should make his OBP even better.

Is Dunn capable of putting up numbers like 30 HR/90 R/90 RBI/.370 OBP or is that being overly optimistic?

Not out of the question, but I would probably back up RBI to 80.

Let's compare some numbers, shall we?
Player A - Age 25
1472 Career ABs
227 Runs
58 HRs
231 RBIs
19 SBs
.332 OBP
(.823 Career OPS)
Player B - Age 24
1160 Career ABs
208 Runs
72 HRs
171 RBIs
31 SBs
.379 OBP
(.863 Career OPS)
Cookie for you if you guessed that Player A is Vernon Wells and Player B is Adam Dunn.
In an OBP league, go ahead and laugh at whoever overpays for Wells while you scoop up Dunn at a ridiculously cheap price.

So basically it was good that I picked him up off the waiver wire as quickly as I could...

So, how valuable is he actually. Above, you compared the three year averages of Dunn and Wells. It looks to me that Dunn's .500 advantage in OBP and his ability to steal over 10 bases makes him more valuable than Wells is. If Dunn manages to stay healthy, is he comparable to say, Maglio Ordonez (with a slightly lower RBI production)?

I don't know about Magglio, b/c Mags gets you everything. Avg, Hr's, Rbi, OBP. I'd take Mags over Dunn in a heartbeat. I'd rather take actual stats than potential.

If using OBP, what round do you think Dunn should go in? I am targeting him but don't want to take him to early.
