US WBC Team not built to win

Postby Zhangman1 » Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:17 pm

Listening to Baseball today on ESPN. Peter Pascarelli had a rant that the US WBC team was built as an All-Star team more concerned with not hurting feelings rather than a team built to win, a la Japan/Korea.

Any thoughts?

I imagine it is hard to build a team to win when a half the players won't play.

The tourney doesn't mean as much to the US than to the other countries.

i think if we lose 2 more of these things, there will be an outcry and we'll end up putting together a "Redeem Team", like usa basketball

I just don't think anyone cares. The WBC doesn't carry the same weight as the olympics.

Well when you have the likes of Adam Dunn and Mark De Rosa playing 1st base, I can't imagine that is the best team the US can put on the field....

Yea, between injuries and players not wanting to play, I was surprised we lasted as long as we did

also it would be nice if Davey Johnson would get off his butt and take a starter out of the game when he is getting crushed before we are compltely out of the game.....

if he made a switch to the bullpen we could have only been down 3-2 or 4-2....
