6th-Year 16-team Dynasty-like Points Keeper currently FULL

Postby Sultans of Squat » Mon Mar 23, 2009 1:32 pm

The Beer & Pretzels Keeper League is currently FULL once again. If still interested, you're welcome to message me or post here (or over in our proboards site) in case we have any new vacancies open up in the upcoming weeks/months. I'll follow up w/ interested parties, if anything opens up -- and we may have 1 (or maybe 2) possibilities in the not-too-distant future.

----------------------------

If you're looking for a good, new challenge w/ a different setup than usual, this might be right up your alley.

The league is a free, points league run on Yahoo and uses (sabermetrics-oriented) Extrapolated Runs for offense, which is similar to Bill James' original Runs Created, and a variation on IP - R for pitching, which is a basic take on runs prevention. This points system is designed to model more closely to real life results (unlike standard Roto and most other points leagues) and has proven to yield excellent, tight races w/ well balanced results for 5 straight seasons now (and one more in a non-keeper before that). Rules are generally kept as simple (and sensible) as possible.

We do not use salaries, but keepability status is simply based on real life contract/FA status, eg. ManRam, Teix, Sabathia, Dunn, K-Rod, et al. were FAs this year (and you can find most of the noteworthy FAs at places like the ESPN FA Tracker). And MLB-ready prospects join the FA pool as they show up in Yahoo, eg. Matt Wieters, Tommy Hanson, et al. this year. We just finished running our annual FA draft off the updated FA pool in order to fill whatever empty roster spots in our 25-man rosters -- and we use a relatively unique approach to the FA draft that helps teams w/ less talent get competitive more quickly while also adding a bit more strategy to it than usual.

Note that you may also find the points system and lineup positions help teams rebuild and become competitive again more quickly since it depends less on certain traditional stats that tend to work against less proven players who may not bat in premium lineup spots or pitch on top teams.

For the complete rules and setup, check this link:

Intro to the League

If interested, fire me a PM or email or YIM me.

FYI, these are the teams currently available (w/ updated post-draft rosters):

Hounds of Hell is TAKEN

Center for Ants is TAKEN

Chavez Ravine is TAKEN

Again, please note that our league setup is a fair bit different from the usual, so don't judge the quality of players in the above rosters w/out getting familiar w/ the setup and rules. For instance, speed/SBs are nowhere near as important here as in standard ROTO leagues -- and we do not care about batting Rs and RBIs at all or pitching Ks. And again, keepability is based on real life contract years and FA status. And there are other nuances to consider as well, so please do check out the entire setup and rules...

Thanks for your interest...

Still looking for 2 more.

And the slow portion of the FA Draft has just begun. Picks for those 2 unowned teams probably won't come up until Wednesday or so, so there's still time to join before then.

Also, my offer to "swap" leagues and join your (quality) league in exchange for you joining ours still stands, assuming you will be active and competitive. FYI, I'm a very active/competitive manager and have played FBB for quite some time now in a few different formats, including salary dynasty, though I'm no fan of H2H :-b. I'm actually currently a top contender in a couple of 18-to-20-team 6x6 ROTO salary dynasties. No experience in standard auction leagues although we do use auctions in the salary dynasties I play.

Let me know soon, if interested.

Chavez Ravine's first pick in the draft was made on its behalf: Rick Porcello

One last try before the live draft, which is set for 2pm ET Saturday 4/4 (tomorrow).

FYI, I will be out until late tonight, so don't worry if I don't follow up until after midnight ET.

Our annual FA Draft Process was completed to start the season.

However, there are still quite a few interesting players available in the FA pool right now, if you act fast, especially if you're interested in some youngsters like:

* Brett Wallace (since we use IF, instead of 1B, you can also stick him at IF when he arrives)
* Aaron Cunningham (could be great if he sticks at CF since good hitting CFs are hard to come by)
* Andrew McCutchen
* Austin Jackson
* Fernando Martinez
* Dayan Viciedo
* Sean Rodriguez (could make a nice true utility guy when he finally gets to play)
* Travis Buck
* David Murphy
* Kendry Morales
* Jesus Flores
* Homer Bailey
* Chris Tillman
* Jarrod Parker
* Jeff Niemann
* Jake McGee
* Wade Davis
* Ryan Tucker
* Shairon Martis
* Carlos Carrasco
* Scott Elbert
* Micah Owings
* Dana Eveland
* Franklin Morales
* Edwin Jackson
* Kyle Davies

NOTE: Pedro Alvarez and Justin Smoak have not been added to Yahoo yet.

Some others of interest:

* Mike Napoli
* Aaron Hill
* Joe Crede
* Chad Tracy
* David DeJesus (if he can keep his CF eligibility)
* Ryan Church
* Chris Duncan
* Luke Scott
* Dustin McGowan
* Tom Gorzelanny
* Justin Duchscherer
* Shaun Marcum
* Some other injured guys
* Some old productive guys like Junior (CF/RF eligible), Moyer, etc.
* Various underrated setup RPs

NOTE: We allow 3 DL spots (until the start of the next preseason), so you can stash some injured guys all the way until next year's preaseason, if they stay on the DL all year.

Remember, the points system does not care about batting R's, RBI's and pitching K's (and doesn't reward SB's, W's and Saves/Holds nearly as much as typically done), so these players are more interesting for this league than usual.

Still looking for 1 more owner. Most of the above listed youngsters (especially those in the minors) are still currently available in our FA pool.
