12 team 5x5 will I repeat as champ? WHIR

Postby Alexcny » Mon Mar 23, 2009 12:51 am

Just finished a draft for a league I have been in the last 5 years. Mostly the same people but we bumped from 10 to 12 people this year. Its a standard 5x5, I had the 7th pick in the draft. I think I might be lacking in steals without one solid guy to pick them up for me. But I think I have 3 guys that can steal 20-25 and 2 guys that can get 10-15.

C- Pablo Sandoval
1B- Adrian Gonzalez
2B- Alexei Ramirez
SS- Jhonny Peralta
3B- Aramis Ramirez
IF- Adrian Beltre
OF- Ryan Braun
OF- Carlos Beltran
OF- Lastings Milledge
Utl- Nelson Cruz
Bn- Paul Konerko
Bn- Ian Stewart
Bn- Eric Byrnes

SP- Francisco Liriano
SP- Roy Oswalt
SP- James Sheilds
RP- Joakim Soria
RP- Matt Capps
P- Matt Lindstrom
P- Kevin Slowey
P- Wandy Rodriguez
Bn- Kenshin Kawakami
Bn- David Purcey

I am probably gonna drop eric byrnes but haven't really decided who I wanna pick up.

Any suggestions? I am a little worried about pitching. I think after my top 3 guys my rotation is pretty weak. Anyone else think the same?

Pitching will hold steady plus you got a couple guys that could easy drops if you need help, I see plenty of power, decent speed but your BA will be low

Yeah, I think the back end of your rotation is way too reliant on upside... I think Shields is really the only slam dunk SP you have, the rest all have varying degrees of uncertainty surrounding them... Your hitting and relief pitching are certainly good enough to win if your pitching works out, or you can make some trades/waiver pick-ups to strengthen it... Overall, I'd give the team 8/10.

I like the pitching staff actually. Shields and Slowey will keep your WHIP down as they walk no one; Oswalt is solid; and Liriano is one more off-season removed from TJ surgery; Purcey just might be Toronto's 2nd best starter. I would look for one more arm of the veteran variety to help offset the youth.

I've been checking the waiver wire for another pitcher to add but its pretty depleted of anyone of talent. Some of the guys on there include

Shawn Marcum
Dave Bush
Rich Hill
Ian Snell

If I were looking to make a trade for a pitcher who should I shop around?

Rich Hill is going to the Minors, but IMO your only tradeable play that has value for a great pitcher, is Beltran, but I doubt you want to do that trade Cruz is a little too inexperience to trade for a good pitcher and Konerko had a Mediocre season last year

Help with mine?

I'd just stay put. You have a nice offense and good solid pitching. The back end has upside guys, if they don't payoff just cycle them for some other pitcher. Good starters are always on the waiver wire every year.
