Keeper League: Zimmerman/King Felix for Wright (WHIR)

Postby BCGrindrod » Sun Mar 22, 2009 10:01 pm

Took over an orphaned team last year in a 14 team Keeper League and I feel like I ain't got much in terms of pitching for the future with bums like Smoltz, Pettite and Harang to anchor my SP staff. I also have Pelfry, Kennedy and A. Miller as 'prospects' but they sure ain't panning out so far.

I was offered Felix Hernandez, Ryan Zimmerman, Ichiro and JJ Putz for my David Wright. I have A-Rod at 3B too (don't ask!). I tried to counter with A-Rod but his being gone for 6 to 9 weeks puts the kibosh on that.

Pull the trigger?

Please leave link if you need help.

I agree that you need to post your team. However, I initially say yes. Your staff appears in need of life support, and you get a nice ace to anchor it. Putz is a decent RP, a great one if you count holds. Zimmerman now has Dunn behind him, so expect more from him On top of that all, you get a major OF boost, unless you're stacked their beyond comprehension (I am in my league--Sizemore, Markakis, Lee, Granderson). I'd do it initially, but post your full team before you take my advice and run with it.

I don't know your entire team but even with Felix I don't think you are going anywhere with that staff unless you are lucky. I would wait to Arod comes back and starts mashing the ball then I would try to deal him for some youth.

I don't know how your league works exactly but i would be tempted to do it if i could replace Putz with a closer.

Felix will be solid and will only improve with time
Zim is an adequate replacement till Arod returns
Ichiro is getting older but has some years left in him
Closer icing on the cake IMO

Otherwise I'd wait till Arod returns and then shop one of the two; you will probably get more if you can/will wait.

In a keeper you would have to pry Wright from my cold dead hands or blow me away with an offer.

i don't know how this affects you, but just thought I'd mention that David Wright is and will be the best player in baseball for the next 5 years. sorry Albert and Hanley, I mean no ill will.
