Pablo Sandoval and C elig...

Postby SecretAgentMan » Sun Mar 22, 2009 9:01 pm

I am in a league where there is a 15 GP min the prior year to qualify at a pos, so Sandoval is only elig at 1b for the moment. I know he will not be playing C this year, but is there a chance he could sub in for Molina on off days\as a late inning replacement? If he gets 10 games in that role(s), he would gain eligibility in our league.

He would be a killer catcher to have in your lineup, but it could take half the season to gain eligibility there. If if isn't already there, then I dont know if I would use a roster spot waiting for him to get it.

Molina doesn't take too many days off, but when he does Sandoval will be his fill-in. over a full season he should get to the 15-20 mark.
If ifs and buts were beer and nuts we'd have one heck of a party....

fwiw, my league needs five games to qualify at the position and I am not planning on seeing him qualifying at C until the all-star break.
But for those in the know - does the play of jesus guzman lead to the possibility of the giants moving sandoval back to C and taking the hit on his defense?

I wouldn't either, but I would need to keep an eye on it if he will become elig somewhere around the break. I am in a 2C league and got stuck with Laird as my 2nd C, so I need to do something about it unless Laird plays better than expected now that he is a full time C.

I don't think anyone is "in the know" about Jesus Guzman, excpet maybe his friends and family- he is a non-roster invitee, and his contribution this year to the Giants big league club will likely be negligible- last year Eugenio Velez was the Giants spring training RBI leader, and he also had 16 spring SBs, one more than he had in 275 atbats during the '08 regular season. spring stats are mostly garbage.

Guzman has played well and has a shot to make the roster. He is not going to be in the starting lineup. And, evenif he was a starter, it would have no bearing on Sandoval- except for Hollywood movies, team don't juggle their starting lineups with established starters to give a non-roster invitee the position he wants.

enough of this guzman nonsense- moving Sandoval back to catcher is a waste- Buster Posey is the future, and the Giants are best off building around Sandoval, Ishikawa, Posey etc. If you need sandoval to play 15 games at catcher to gain eligibility, the season will be over before you can play him at catcher
