Hey guys I am in a Money league, 12 teams 20 dollar buy in winner takes 3/4 and 2nd place takes 1/4 of the pot. Commish tried to shake things up this year and went in and tweeked the scoring. I ran the numbers and found that the best Aces in the game will score negative points on the year. while the closers will score 200 plus, Lincecum -54 points on the year, while KROD +205. We have to start 2 relievers and minimum of 2 starters. I realized this and while everyone was drafting starters I kept snagging Hitters and a few top closers. So I am to a moral point should I clue in the rest of the league or just keep the info. to myself and then hopefully smile while I take the big check home in September? If you are wondering what he did here is the scoring for the league: Scoring for Batting Categories BB - Walks (Batters) 1 point CS - Caught Stealing -1 point CYC - Hitting for the Cycle 10 points GSHR - Grand Slam Home Runs 8 points KO - Strikeouts (Batter) -1 point R - Runs 1 point RBI - Runs Batted In 1 point SB - Stolen Bases 2 points SF - Sacrifice Flies 1 point TB - Total Bases 1 point Hitting is fine, it is pretty standard.
Scoring for Pitching Categories BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -1 point BS - Blown Saves -2 points CG - Complete Games 10 points ER - Earned Runs -2 points HA - Hits Allowed -1 point K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point L - Losses -2 points NH - No-Hitters 15 points S - Saves 5 points SO - Shutouts 10 points W - Wins 5 points Here is where he goofed: no points for innings pitched, ER is -2 points,
C- Hundley, Iannetta 1b- Wallace 2b- Barney/Barmes 3b- J. Lopez CO- G. Sanchez SS- Tulo MI- Castro OF- Bay, Hart, Pagan, Smith, Francisco, Ankiel U- C. Ross(DL), Cantu P- Carpent, Billings, Volquez, Marcum, Norris, J. Vazquez, Westbrook, Wolf, E Rogers
If you say something you will have re-draft. That being said, are you in this to win money or to have fun? To me it doesn't sound like you will have a very fun time...
I am not sure how much fun I would have in that league. Its only going to take everyone else 1 week to figure it out and you will have all kinds of pitchers on waivers.
I don't know. If you say something, the only fair thing to do is redraft, which is going to piss a lot of people off. But leaving things they way they are pretty much guarantees a boring as hell league.
Everyone is going to realize in a week when they get negative points from their starters, call the commish an idiot, and he's either going to fix the scoring mid season, or everyone is going to leave (and probably ask for their money back for the eff up.)
You should have told him before drafting. If I were Commish at this point I'd either force a redraft after a rules change or I'd just disband the league and give people their money back. The one thing I would not do is let the league last the way it is right now. I'd also probably not let you into the next league I ran since you obviously knew things were messed up and kept quiet about it... of course if I were you I wouldn't want to be in a league run by someone as incompetent as he is~.
You should have mentioned it to the commish, though it's awfully sad that NOBODY else caught this.
When I join a league with tons of cats or points, the first thing I do is to run the numbers and see how the new categories change standard rankings. In my opinion it's ok to use the rankings to your advantage, but when it completely disrupts the league a line needs to be drawn. In this case it wasn't just that closers brought in a higher value, it's that the whole system was broken.
It's one thing to find a competitive advantage, but another to exploit faulty settings.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
